"Oil and Water"

When oil spills on water it's very pretty -

It spreads across the top in sinuous lazy curves -
An explosion of colors reflected for all to see -
Expanding and exploring the water's edge.

But it doesn't fill the space it only seems so,
As it suspends itself there upon the top.
The oil and water don't really mix,
And often what seems so beautiful is truly poison.

Finally, the water rolls on and we remember only the beauty.
