Freiman's Missive to the populace

Dear guys,

Freiman here, saying hello to all my brothers and sisters back across the pond. I am settling in here in Europe and I am very happy about it. I miss all of you so much and I wish that I could have you here with me.

Life is generally pretty good. My lovely wife and I are living in a lovely townhouse that is much too big for our needs, but we will force ourselves to live with it. I am teaching school while Yo (my beautiful bride) does her student teaching, and the money is pretty good. In Mississippi terms, the money is great, but it doesn't go nearly as far here. Things will be better when we are both teaching.

The only two complaints that I have are that I have no car as yet, and I have no peer group. The first problem will be fixed soon (I have only been "in-country" for 19 days) and the second I am beginning to think will be around for a while. I believe that I am the only Legionaire in Europe, and I would like, sometime in the future, to hold a stick dance here, and fix that.

On a deeper level, the peer-group problem is pretty major. I have always had a large group of friends and aquaintances who have given me a tremendous amount of reinforcement. Here, I don't interact with quite so many people. There are very few people who would qualify as "peers". There are a lot of G.I.'s, and there are a lot of Germans but neither group has much in common with me. I am pretty much restricted to dealing with my lovely wife, and the teachers at the school at which I teach. I just don't like high school teachers very much, they tend to be pushy, and at K-town high, they tend to be at least 55 years old.

I guess what I am saying is, PLEASE E-MAIL ME!!! some of you have already e-mailed me, but I lost a lot of you due to some e-mail problems. I have a new address FREIMAN99@HOTMAIL.COM

Enough griping. Life is really good for me. I am living in the little village of Hoenecken, which grew up around a castle built by Emperor Fredrick I (Barbarossa) to defend one of the approaches to his summer palace at Kaiserslautern. The Castle ruins are visible from one of our balconies, and they look very impressive. We made the (about) half mile hike to the ruins one night. The way is well lit and easy to follow, but it is Very steep and Very slippery.

I am not currently playing anywhere, but the opportunities are there, I hope to find the right place soon, those of you who are on the mailing list will hear more about it. Please go see the band, they decided to continue to play, and the lovely Lindsay Colley has agreed to take my place. her SCA name is (I Believe) Caileen and I am sure the trust the band placed in her will be well rewarded. Really, she'd be stupid to waste this opportunity.

More later...
