Bring your armor for the opportunity to meet, practice and trade wisdom with women fighters from across Kingdom boundaries. The practice will be held Thursday, March 15, 11am-2pm on the field in front of the Fort. Note this is intended for Heavy Combat only.
This is not for Women only.... We encourage all interested to come out and play, teach, and encourage. Last years practice was GREAT! It was well led, well supported, well attended, well recieved, and well.... just a lot of fun!
We invite and encourage all women fighters to please attend. We especially invite those who always thought they wanted to try swinging a sword and never felt they had the chance. There will be plenty of loaner armor and weapons, and instructors for one-on-one training. This practice is ALL ABOUT having the time for you. We will get you dressed, get you on the field, and show you what all the fuss is about. There will be a post following this one to tell all fledgling women fighters what to wear and bring. More experienced women fighters may find this a prime opportunity to pick up a new weapon system or a new trick for your bag. Fighters from outside your area/kingdom can teach you the neatest things.
We really need all the help we can get from everyone who can possibly make it. Specifically, we will need:
The first two are pretty self-explanatory. Please contact your local groups to see if we can borrow their loaner armor, and if you aren't planning on fighting at that time, please loan what you can. This is critical to making this work(there are no major battles on the schedule at that time).
Teachers - preferably with experience teaching women, or a real desire to see more and better women fighters on the field.
Fighters - We want as many experienced women as we can get, but also we want women with no experience and lots of desire. If you have ever been to a fighter practice and thought "I want to try that" but thought you would be wasting someone's time - this practice is for you. We are hoping to get everyone who wants to try it out into armor and swinging a stick
with one-on-one help from an experienced fighter.
This is ALL ABOUT having time.
Even if you don't plan on fighting – YOU ARE NEEDED...
We need plenty of Marshals, loaner gear, and waterbearers. If you or your group are willing to loan armor and weapons, or you wish to volunteer to marshal or train, please contact Katilat the address below.
Thanks for your support so far, and let's see if we can pull this off.
For more information, contact Lady Katil of Grey Niche at ladykatil@yahoo.com
Wear comfortable clothing you can move and sweat in, preferably something you don't mind getting a little torn from armor nibbles. Pants should be long and loose enough for good movement.
Wear a supportive athletic bra appropriate to your cup size. Fighting is not really high impact in the usual sense of the term (we aren't leaping around for the most part), but there can be quick direction changes, and the more compression, the better. Try your local athletic store, or try www.lucy.com or www.titleninesports.com for good selection.
Do not wear jewelry, particularly necklaces, bracelets or dangly earrings. Small continuous hoops are usually okay, as are posts, but they may bite into your head and be uncomfortable.
If you think you are going to stay with this at all, you may want to bring your own groin protector. The easiest way to obtain one is looking for women's hockey or marshal arts groin protectors (commonly called "jills") at your local sports store. You can also easily make one of leather, contact me for details.
Wear comfortable shoes with good tread, preferably boots. Tennis shoes are not allowable per Kingdom law. NO SANDALS!
Braid or tie your hair back to keep it off your face and neck.
Since this is a supervised practice, you need not be authorized and are covered under our general waiver. No other paperwork will be necessary.
If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Most of all, plan on coming out and having the time of your life whacking and bashing.
