Loammi Baldwin was a major in the Woburn militia and, as commanding officer on
April 19,1775, he executed the first successful ambush on the British that day at the
Bloody Angle ( so called because the deadly ambush was accomplished at a sharp,
double bend in the road being taken by the British troops on their return from Concord
to Boston.) His militia wiped out the British command by injuring 9 out of the 10 offi-
cers in the leading companies.
He remained in the militia, was promoted eventually to Colonel in 1776 and on Decem-
ber 26, 1776 he led the 26th Continental regiment into battle at Trenton after which he
retired due to poor health.
