Help Save Impulse

Accel by: Emily Furlong

I grabbed my Impulse suit, pulled it on, and ran out of the house. I thought he could hear Max calling "Normal Speed!" but I didn't care. I wanted to go somewhere, and think. Which surprised me. I never really did "think", I just kind of skipped from seeing something happen to doing something about it. But now I really needed to. Hard. And somewhere quiet.

Later...

At the top of Mount Everest, about 3 seconds later, I sat on a rock and stared down at the Earth. I felt as if I could see the whole world, and liked it. All of the sudden, I heard someone screaming for help, and looked behind me. Nothing, but clear, white snow. Focusing harder, I saw a small, secluded cabin in the mist of the icy fog. Instantly, I sped off towards the cabin. When I got there, I knocked on the door. There was a scream for help, and I vibrated through the door. Inside, there was a girl, tied to a chair, in what appeared to be a back room of sorts.

Unfastening the ropes, I whispered, "Quiet." To her and grabbed the girl's hand and was about to lead her out the back door when he heard another door open behind me and he spun around. Standing there, was Inertia. I gasped, but it was too late.

Meanwhile…

Max paced up and down the hall.

"Where is Bart? He should have been home a while ago." Glancing at the clock, he scowled. "That kid is in deep trouble when he gets home." He said. Linda looked out the window. "If he gets home," she said. Back to my problem…

Inertia had hanged me upside down in a coil of ropes. I tried to wriggle out of the ropes, but it was no use. Besides, 'Nert was right there in front of me. Suddenly, Max Mercury burst inside the door with Flash not following far behind. Max delivered one punch to Inertia and he was out. I grinned. I'd have to remember that next time. Max untied me and I went to help the girl, but she was already out, and she was fighting with the Flash! I pulled her away from him and I said, "Hi! My name is Impulse." Pointing to Max, I said, "This is Max. And the person you were trying to destroy is Flash. We're superheroes." Her face went pale when I told her we were superheroes. She sped off, going as fast as I could! I sped up after her and said, "You're pretty fast!"

"My name is Bliss Campbell. I'm Accel."

"And I'm Impulse." I told her as we sped to my house. "Bart Allen." I whispered softly.

She nodded, and sat on the porch. I cringed. Preston was coming, and here I was in my Impulse suit, sitting on Bart Allen's porch. I grabbed Accel's hand and ran into the backyard.

"No one knows I'm Impulse, and Max will kill me if I let the secret go. Besides, I don't want the Science Police from the 30th Century to come. That would not be good…" I said to her. She looked astonished. "The 30th Century? I live in the 30th Century!" Then she looked around. "Or…used to." I smiled. There was one thing we had in common…

The next day, I sat on my bed. The door opened, Accel walked in, and said, "Ta-da. Now I'm Impulse Girl!" She was wearing an exact replica of my suit, and I was surprised.

Wow!" I said. "It's great!"

"Do you really like it?" She said, pulling at the side.

"Oh, yes!" I said. She looked absolutely beautiful in it.

"Let's go take a run so I can get used to it. I used to look like Silver Moon." She said, giggling.

I popped my costume out of the thrifty costume ring Flash had given me, pulled it on, and we sped out the door. "Heh, heh." I thought. "Wait till Carol gets a load of this! Wait till everyone does!" We stopped by the Flash museum. I was disappointed once again since I had been here when the Legionnaires came.

"Still no Impulse room." I noted. She sighed.

"Let's go home." She said. "I bet I can beat you at Sonic!"

"No way!" I said, and chased her out the glass doors. There we were. Two of Manchester's favorite speedsters, working together. And she definitely will not beat me at Sonic!
