Documents from debates
In 1999 debates about the Sardinian language on the mailing list Sa-Limba led to an open letter to the Sardinian newspapers about having a page in the language on a regular basis. The newspapers use almost exclusively Italian. In 2000 the newspaper L'Unione Sarda provided articles in Sardinian, but this was later discontinued.

Also in 1999, the president of Italy was about to make the final approval of a new law on minor languages in Italy. For the first time, the law mentions the Sardinian language. The public debate at the time was very critical towards the proposed law as some of the languages mentioned in it were traditionally considered "dialects". On the mailing list Sa-Limba an appeal was written to the president that he should make the approval. The law was approved but many still think it as a sort of compromise: the voices against it see it as "undermining" Italian as a state language, whereas many of the ones for it think it ought to mention all minor languages in Italy.
