ONES TO WATCH--JOSH HARTNETT

No pain, no gain. That's how the saying goes, right? Well, if it wasn't for an unfortunate injury, 21-year-old Halloween H20 heart-throb Josh Hartnett would probably never have made it in movies.  "I hurt my knee while playing football. I auditioned for this play...and I got the part," explains Josh, who grew up in St. Paul, Minn. "I got up on stage and people were clapping and looking at me. It was exciting. I felt like I had a place." The TV series Cracker soon followed, which led to roles in H20, The Faculty, Town and Country, the soon-to-be-released indie The Virgin Suicides and the Shakespeare-inspired O, out in October. But despite his big-screen success, Josh wouldn't mind returning to his roots. "I know it's probably completely senile, but what I really want to do is theater." he admits. There's just one snag: " I went to theater school and got kicked out."
