About Deep Blue Something

Deep Blue Something is a band out of Denton, Tx.

For starters,

Ok, here is what i know (or at least have heard) about the bands history... Todd and Toby pipes grew up in Huntsville, Tx and went to college at UNT (the university of north texas) in Denton, Tx where the band formed. They used to play in Rick's Place, a club across the street from UNT, every weekend before they were big.

The band was originally called Leper Mesiah in '92. They got the name Deep Blue Something in '93 from a song (i believe it was an instrumental) that they needed a name to. Somebody in the band (I've heard it was John) said "how about deep blue something.." with the intention for the something to be filled in and it later became their name.

Clay was originally in the band but dropped out and they made 11th Song with just the 3 of them : Toby, Todd, and John. They got Kirk Tatom soon after that and then, directly after the profits from the nationally published Home came out, Kirk left due to creative differences. Todd convinced Clay to rejoin them and they are now happily trying to open up a recording studio.

It is mainly the Pipes brothers that write the songs and whichever one writes the song ussually sings it.

Todd taught at Lake County Christian Academy in Fort Worth and was fired because his students were buying their teachers "rock" album. "When they hired me they knew I was in a band but when the kids started buying my album they had to let me go. Which was fine with me... I wanted to be in the band full-time anyway." (Todd Pipes)

Both Todd and Clay are married (sorry girls!!) and Todd calls his wife, Lisa, every night and talks to her for an hour or more. Latest info concludes that John has a girlfriend, anf Toby doesn't.

  • Kirk used to be John's roommate.
