Theme Discovery Report

(by Dean Montgomery)

Description

Theme Discovery report is a bible study tool that enables bible students to
easily see the key words in any given range of verses. It:

1. Extracts Strong's Numbers from the verse range.
2. Counts and sorts the numbers by occurance within the verse range.
3. Displays the results in a report format.

Theme Discovery works best with OT passages because words like: "it, he, she,
and, which, they" etc are not included. This is because Hebrew joins these
words to the nouns and verbs. Themes Discover will include less relevant
words in the NT. Future versions may eliminate these less relavent NT words.

Installation

Theme Discovery Report comes with its own install utility. Simply dowload the setup file (371KB) to your desktop and run it. During the installation process all you need to do is select the directory where your custom toolbar files are located.

Custom Toolbar files are located in customtoolbars folder of your Series X personal user files directory. If you are not sure where the root path for your personal user files click on the version number of LDLS you are running:

Version 1.1a or lower       Version 2.0 or higher

How to Access Theme Discovery Report:

To access the Theme Discovery Report, launch Libronix DLS. The Theme Discovery Report is launched from the toolbar by pressing on the icon depciting a note pad inscribed with the letters TD.

Alternatively you can start your study session by launching Theme Discovery Report from: Start->Programs->AutomatingX->Theme Discovery->Theme Discovery Report.

How to use Theme Report:

1. Enter Verse Range
2. Select Bible Version (only strong's encoded versions)
3. Choose formating options:

a. show x number keylinks - for each strong's word in the passage indicate if you want to show keylinks by checking the box and indicating how many keylinks you want to show.

b. show bible text - for each strong's word in the passage indicate if you want to show it context and select the trim option if you want to show the word in context rather than the whole verse

c. ignore words with less than x number of appearances - for instance if you set this to 3 than words found that occur only once or twice will not be included in the report.

4. Click Generate.

In the example result above 3 keylink destinations were chosen to be shown along with bible text with no trimming and occurences were limited to words occuring three or more times.

If you click on the heading entries for each result eg. 3050 occurs about three times, this will generate a bible search for this strong's number in the passage. For each strong's word you can also generate an englishman's concordance.

Hints and Tips:

In order to speed up the report:

1. Do not make the verse range to large.

2. Choose not to show keylink destinations - once you have found out the strong's words that occur the most, you can click on generate englishman's concordance for those words you want to study further and this report will generate the keylinks. This way rather than spending time generating keylinks for each strong's word you are only generating them for words you are interested in pursuing in a word study. This will be particularly useful for NT passages which include extra words and you will avoid generating keylinks for these words.

3. Start by setting the minimum number of occurences for a word to be inlcuded in the report to a higher value. Then if you find it does not generate enough information you can lower this value. This will be more useful in OT passages than NT because of the problem with extra words appearing in NT which probably have high levels of occurences.
