Saiyuki Gaiden is the story of what occured 500 years ago, as can be surmised from it's tag line, which translates roughly to: "this is the story of how it all began." It is published in G Fantasy magazine. However, unlike Gensomaden Saiyuki it skips a month in between instalments, which adds to the tension of waiting for the new issues to arrive. The first collected volume was released December 25th, 2000.
