The living NASCAR stock-car

From Sanzo's past, Shuuei is revived as a man obsessed with revenge for the death of the Sanzohoushi, Sanzo's teacher. He was very close to Sanzo when he was a child (he always calls him Kouryuu), so the fight between them takes both a physical and a psychological toll on Sanzo. When Shuuei almost kills Sanzo Goku removes his gadget, allowing his true demon form to surface. Shuuei survives the encounter by luck and, maddened, bows to kill all four travellers. When Sanzo recovers, though, he tracks Shuuei down and kills him. As he dies the real Shuuei re-surfaces and thanks Sanzo for giving his soul peace at last.

Sanzo's teacher and the head priest of the Kinzan-ji (Golden Mountain Temple), the Sanzohoushi is a kind, paternal man who adopts Sanzo in the hopes of training him to follow in his footsteps. The Sanzohoushi is killed, though, and his death affected Sanzo greatly. Most of what the reader knows about this man is from Sanzo's memories of a more tranquil life with him. The Sanzohoushi is a calm, philosophical man who enjoys a leisurely puff on his pipe. Although a well meaning and kind man, the Sanzohoushi was unable to protect himself and Sanzo from the events that began to develop around him.

Tongue fetish extraordinaire
The self-styled son of centipedes, Chin Ii Sou is a master of deceit who uses mahjongg playing pieces in order to create life-like marionettes. Three years ago he kidnapped Hakkai's sister and lover, Kanan, and raped her. Angered, Hakkai killed Chin's clan, as well as Chin himself. Chin kept himself alive, though, by means of a mahjongg piece whose inscription reads "life" and vowed revenge on Hakkai. He almost succeeds, almost driving Hakkai to insanity, but when Hakkai realizes Chin really is dead he rips the mahjongg piece out of his body, freeing himself of his painful past. Chin is a villain who uses words in order to play with his victim's psyches, driving them to the breaking point. This makes him one of the most interesting villains in the series.

Missing and exploited children

Twins whose names refer to silver and gold, respectively. Kinkaku and Ginkaku (a large black beast) meet up with Gojyo while he is out shopping for the others. Because Gojyo complains about his friends Kinkaku attacks them, sending Hakkai and Goku's spirit into another realm. In this realm Hakkai and Goku meet the real Ginkaku, who is dead. Kinkaku doesn't know this, though. When both twins were small and lost in the woods they were taken in by Kami sama and commanded to do "a good thing": to kill all evil people. When Hakkai tells Kinkaku that his twin is really dead and Kinkaku refuses to believe the truth Kami sama kills him. Before his death, though, Kinkaku had almost turned towards good, grateful for Gojyo's kind and brotherly affection.

Recently returned from Mardi Gras!
A mysterious and duplicitous character, Kami sama is a cold and calculating man. He kills without remorse and constantly refers to people as toys to be played with. Like Ni Jieni, he seems to be quite insane. He believes himself above judgement but capable of judging everyone else around him. It has recently been revealed that Kami sama is the adopted son of an old friend of the Sanzohoushi, and he regards himself as the true heir to the Kinzan-ji, taking obvious pleasure in messing with Sanzo's head.

Kami sama's story is still unfolding at the moment, but our theory is that this man may have been the one to kill the Sanzohoushi.
