Dear Letters Editor: Dump the 3 strikes law. It distorts punishment correspondence with crime. Allow past criminal records to be included in testimony to give jurors the complete picture and accordingly punish repeat criminals. No evidence should be excluded from the court room unless the jury thinks it a waste of their time. Jurors should be selected at random from a pool rather than endure hours of waiting for assignment to a trial and attorney interviews only to go home unassigned and return to waste another day. Attorneys can complain about the annual average mix of the pool relative to the community, e.g. too many government check recipients, but they can't object to a random selection from it.
