Dear Letters Editor:

People concerned about saving children demand that government mandate airbags. That increases the cost of a new vehicle sufficiently to delay the replacement of some older, more dangerous vehicles, indirectly killing children. Since 1993, airbags directly kill 99 children. Parents have to beg government for bag disable switches. Then government fines parents for forgetting to use the switch to disable the bag when their child is in the seat.

Why weren't the do-gooders and government officials fined for mandating air bags in the first place? Why isn't there an anti-airbag lobby when they have killed 7 more children than all the children killed by guns in school? The Columbine killers violated at least seventeen gun laws, yet more useless laws are demanded and passed. Why don't the same people who claim to be concerned about "the children" demand air bag control laws? Why don't these hypocrites demand bucket and swimming pool control laws, when they kill many more children than guns? With what are they going to defend children from assaults?

Sincerely,
