Dear Letters Editor: Voter fraud - 1. Reduce the ability of government to tax, borrow, regulate or enslave, and voter fraud, campaign donations and lobbyist paychecks will accordingly decline. 2. As long as Zip codes are unrelated to federal judicial districts, use ZIP+4 codes to define precincts rather than the gerrymandered nonsense we have now. Then voters can readily know in what precincts they reside, and the mass mailing of voter pamphlets and ballots is simplified. 3. Government I.D.s tread dangerous ground. Reverse the situation. Rather than have commerce suffer with one-size-fits-all government I.D.s that are profitable to counterfeit, let private enterprise devise I.D. solutions. Businesses like banks and credit card companies have a vested interest in viable I.D. systems and accurate addresses to eliminate fraud. Allow poll workers and police to use reputable commercial I.D.s for identity purposes. Some companies will eventually specialize in the I.D. business. Accuracy will be essential for their survival. Else use one ballot per thumb print. With the advent of low cost, high speed thumb print scanners and comparison systems, this becomes practical. Discard ballots with duplicate prints. Thumb prints and contact information should only be correlated in convicted criminal databases. Counts are not released until the ballots of the last time zone are counted, eliminating the effect of result announcements in one time zone on voters in subsequent time zones. There is no need to rush. The news media will just have to be satisfied learning the election results a day or two after the election, which is a lot sooner than our forefathers learned of their election results after hand counting the ballots and delivering the results by horseback. Thumb print size or DNA from the print might be used to determine age, but nothing will stop uninterested children and spouses from giving their ballots to one parent to complete. Rest homes and funeral parlors may still engage in fraud, but so what? That's a drop in the ballot box. At least grave yards will be out of the voting business.
