Dear Letters Editor:

Doug Willis says in his AP article on 1/15 that "Most Californians believe pubic schools are getting worse, but they are are reluctant to raise taxes to improve them". That's because most Californians know that throwing more money at government schools will only degrade education further, and pad the public education bureaucracy with more burnt-out teachers where only one in five teach now. We also know of all the devious tactics used by the California Teacher's Union and their mercantilist beneficiaries to get school bonds passed, like stealth elections and phone banks posing as taxpayer organizations. That's why the two-thirds vote requirement was passed in the first place. Vote NO on 26!

Since the imposition of government education in the 1800s, the literacy of Americans has declined. Forget vouchers. They will only result in the degradation of private schools.

I know there are a few good teachers among the misguided and miseducated who strive to inspire their students with real history, civics, English, math, science and individualism despite the bureaucracy, but it's long past time to end the charade and expose the education establishment as a lying pack of parasites who are interested more in featherbedding and indoctrination, AKA "socialization" than education.

Public schools are based on theft, conscription and the fraud that government, which fails miserably at everything else compared to private enterprise, can educate better than private enterprise, that government cares more than parents about education, and that government knows better than parents what should be taught and who should teach it.

Yes, there may a few parents who don't care about their children, but are those infinitesimal few sufficient justification to suffocate generations of Americans with government education? Absolutely not! End public schools and private enterprise will rush to replace the rotting carcass of government education with superior schools, teachers and education tailored to the wishes of parents as education consumers, not bureaucrats as education dictators.

Sincerely,
