| Dear Letters Editor: On 9/14 "State cigarette sales fall; Prop. 10 backers crow" says 50 cents per pack tax and wholesale price increases to pay the $206 billion in health claim settlements to 46 states were responsible, but base the claim on sale tax declines. Sorry, Meatheads, correlation is not causation. People are just buying more from outside California or the U.S. Thanks to the Meatheads, California sales tax proceeds are lost, the Web cigarette business is hot, and Mexican vacations pay from themselves, and are even profitable if extra cartons are imported for sale. In fact, net sales tax may be less with the 50 cent increase than without. But the Meatheads don't care about that. Even if it must be diverted from other uses, like schools, the Meatheads still get their 50 cents a pack to fund more Socialist bureaucracies to exert more control over Californians.
