Dear Letters Editor: According to the ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER, California is sending 3,200 letters to individuals demanding an average of $112 per customer. There is no rational justification for on State imposing a sales tax on products produced in other States and acquired via the mails or the Internet. There is no retailer. The producer did not benefit from infrastructure or security financed by taxes as could be argued with retailers and manufacturers within the State. Furthermore, such taxes are effectively a duty on imports from other States, and constitute a violation of Artical I, Section 9 of the Constitution: No Preference shall be given by any Regulation of Commerce or Revenue to the Ports of one State over those of another: nor shall Vessels bound to, or from, one State be obligated to enter, clear, or pay Duties in another.
