Estaban Jocato was once a human of Suel descent who became the Champion of Tharizdun, and by becoming the champion, he has become more: he is now human/demon prince/arch-devil/greater daemon. He now hails from the Abyss, the Nine Hells, Hades, and the Prime Material Plane. He is able to travel, at will, to any of the lower planes, the prime material plane, the astral plane, and the ethereal plane.

All of Estaban's abilities are at either 15th level clerical, or 20th level magic-user, depending on the ability. In an ability where it could be either, the ability is used at the higher level.

Estaban's appearance is that of a human of Suloise decent, he's 5'11" tall, and about 170 lbs. He appears to be in his early 30's (actual age:39), and has a solid body mass. He has shoulder length, straight light brown hair and green eyes, fair skin, a gotee, and dresses in black: black pants, black shirt, black cloak, black boats, black leather gloves, and a black fidora. On the upper left side of his chest is a tatto of a dark blue and black dagger.

Estaban has the following Magical Items availible:

-Unbinder (theorpart)(usually in form of long sword, on back)

Estaban is not affected by the harmful side affects of the spell-like abilities he uses, save for the vision spell, which can force him into servitude to a Greater Power.

(*) Cure is used as a general term to include the following curative spells. All can be used at will, but only one at a time:

Cure blindness
Cure deafness
Cure disease
Cure feeblemind
Cure insanity
Remove curse
Remove fear
Remove paralysis

(*2) Detect includes the following divination spells. All can be used at will, but only one at a time:

Detect balance

Detect evil/good
Detect illusion
Detect invisibility
Detect lie
Detect life
Detect magic
Detect poison
Detect traps
Know alignment

(*3) The gaze of Estaban can, at will, cause fear, fear and weakness or chill (slows 50% and -5 on all dice rolls) at his option. Saving throw versus spells applies.

(*4) Estaban can gate in other demons with an 80% chance of success: 50% 1-6 Type III (Glabrezu), 25% Type V, 25% Type VI.

(*5) The summon ability of Estaban Jocato brings 1d6 creatures of no more than 30 total hit dice.

(*6) Granting a wish has set limits among the powers, including Estaban. Wishes can only be granted to inhabitants of the Prime Material planes (one reason those planes are central in the wheeling and dealing of the Powers). They cannot affect any other power in his home plane. Finally, they cannot affect the Power that grants them in any way. Wishes that violate these rules have no effect.

(*7) Estaban can also summon devils: 1-4 Barbed devils, 1-4 Bone devils, 1-3 Pit Fiends, or 1-2 Styx devils.

On one of Estaban's home planes (the prime Material Plane, the Abyss, the Nine Hells, or Hades) his divine powers are magnified in the following manner:

-The spell-like abilities listed as limited to four uses per day can be used at will.

-The spell-like abilities listed as limited to two uses per day can be used four times per day.

-Estaban's listed hit points are doubled while on his native layer (not his entire native plane). Estaban's native layers are:
-The Prime Material Plane: Greyspace
-The Abyss: Asfradsurlasium, 658th tier
-The Nine Hells: Stygia, the 5th hell
-Hades: Oinos, the 1st Gloom of Hades

-Estaban and all non-living objects within the domain of his that he is currently in are 100% magic resistant, unless the magic resistance of Estaban or item is higher. The magic resistance of all non-living objects in his other domains where is he not currently in are 85%. Spells can affect Estaban's person or his domain if he permits it.

-Estaban's senses extend into the Ethereal and Astral planes, but he must consciously look into those planes.

-Estaban can be slain permanently on the planes of the Abyss, Hades, and the Nine Hells. Slaying him on any other plane (including any Prime Material Plane) merely banishes him from that plane for 100 years, except in the case of Greyspace, where he is banished for 200 years. He can still return to planes where he has been banished from, but only if summoned, and if he is summoned to a plane where he has been banished from, the summoner's chances of success are reduced by 15%.

-Estaban can seal nonpermanent colour pools in his domains (i.e.: native layers). He can pull observers out of the Astral plane by force of will.

-Estaban can, in his domains, cause specific spells to malfunction or function in a different fashion. This is limited to 20 spells of no more than 80 spell levels total, every 10 years. If he uses up his limit, he must wait until 10 years have passed before he can use this ability again. These limitations or malfunctions are in addition to any standard limitations for the plane; this ability can be used to reinstate spells otherwise forbidden by the plane. Estaban does not use this ability that often.

-Estaban can attempt to sever the silver cord of an Astral traveler. This attack is automatically successful if it occurs in one of his domains, except Greyspace. Otherwise, a saving throw against the attacked creature's magic resistance is allowed. The silver cord is treated as having an AC of -5. If the attack is successful, the cord is snapped. Individuals caught in this fashion can be slain or stranded, depending on the circumstances, and upon Estaban's mood.

Estaban is affected by the listed attacks forms as noted below:

Attack Maximum Damage Will be:
acid full
cold half
electricity (lightning) full
fire (dragon, magical) none
gas (poisonous, etc.) half
iron weapons none (*)
magic missile full
poison full
silver weapons full
non-magical weapons none
charm/suggestion no effect

(*) unless affected by normal weapons, in which case damage will be according to the weapon type.

Estaban's Special Attack is as follows:

Energy Beams: These beams of energy do anywhere from 1-100 HP damage, depending on how much Estaban wants to do for damage. He can attack with either a pair of beams, or a single beam of energy, but the amount of damage is unchanged. This attack form does weaken him, causing a temporary loss of 3 constitution and 3 strength points per an attack with this ability. He regains 1 point in each attribute each round. He does not lose the strength or constitution points if the attack misses. If the attack hits some other object other than the intended target, then that object will take the damage and Estaban will lose the attribute points as dictated above (magical, non-living objects get a saving throw vs crushing blow made at -6, failure means they are destroyed, artifacts follow normal artifact rules, or their own built in protections). He can use this attack for each of his 3 attacks a round if he so chooses. The target must be within 100' of Estaban, and be in the line of sight. After 100', the beams dissipate, and are wasted, causing no lose of attribute points.

Estaban's Special Defenses are as follows:

Besides only able to be hit by weapons of +2 or better, he is also immune to 1st and 2nd level illusion/phantasm spells, and is also immune to spells that influence (charm, command, dominate, hypnotize, suggest, etc.). Estaban is also able to resist detection from scrying and other similar forms. He is allowed a saving throw vs spells at +2, and if successful, he can not be found by the being scrying. This ability is good against all but a greater god. He is also able to hide his alignment from all others, except those of higher status (i.e., Greater God), including the use of a know alignment spell or similar magic.

History:
Estaban Jocato, Emperor of Nyrond, Champion of Tharizdun, Master Thief, Lesser God in his own right, was born on the world of Oerth approximately CY 540. It is not know exactly what year he was born, and within a month of his birth, he was left on the doorstep of poor Ketite farmer and his household. He was raised by this farmer until he was 14, when he got bored being a farmer, and decided to head out to the big city. His adoptive father, Miguel Jocato, gave him a long sword, a set of ring mail armour, a dagger, and a pouchful of coins, and wished his son good luck. Estaban said his goodbyes to his mother, father, his sisters and his brother, and left the family farm. He traveled for days enjoying his newly found freedom, and eventually arrived in Lopolla, the capital of Ket. After discovering what the city had to offer, he left Ket and traveled south to Thornward, the capital of the March of Bissel. It was here in Thornward where he began his thieving. A lad of 15, he was getting poor, and was beginning to get desperate for money, and began stealing. He soon realized that he had a natural knack for thievery, and began to get rich, but Estaban was smart enough not to get caught, nor to get noticed by the local Thieves' Guild. After a time, he got bored with Thornward and left, heading east towards the Archclericy of Veluna. He stayed briefly in Mitrik, and then left, heading east towards the Kingdom of Furyondy. During this time, he had many an adventure, and even was a brigand for a bit. But, like always, his wanderlust caught up with him and he left, heading towards his destiny.

He traveled much across the Flanaess, and developed his skills as a thief. He joined a group of Atoli for a time, learning some of their acrobatic techniques, but he decided not to stay with them forever, and he left them as they were camped outside the city of Leukish, in the Duchy of Urnst. He said his goodbyes and left, heading west towards the Free City of Greyhawk. He arrived in the Free City when he was about 25 years old, and happened upon meeting Godarian, Riggby, Landru, and Tole (whom it was later to be found out were cousins). He joined this group of adventures and together, they had many an adventure together. They traveled to and defeated the Temple of the Elemental Evil, figuring out how to defeat Zuggtmoy and Iuz. It was here that Estaban's alignment began it's change from Neutral to Neutral Evil. Nobody realized this at the time, not even Estaban. After that, as they were resting in some tiny hamlet somewhere on the Wild Coast, they were asked to help a town known as Barovia. They accepted, and the five of them found themselves trapped on the Demi-Plane of Dread. They eventually found a way to leave the Demi-Plane, but instead of returning to Oerth, they found themselves on a new world, one where humans lived with intelligent animals and plants.

After traveling around this new land (Gamma Terra), they found themselves in the community of Iac South. To be accepted into the community, they were required to participate in a summons, and they decided to do so. They were sent out to find some sort of technological artifact for the village elders, and they gladly did it. They were joined by a pompous man named Travenix, who, because he had participated in past summons, considered himself leader. Travenix later died by being stung by a bloodwasp, but unbeknownst to the others, Estaban had already begun using poisons, and it was he who had actually killed Travenix (using a diluted form of an ingested type posion: Thrum), the bloodwasp was just an convenient way to draw suspicion away from him. But the loss was small, for none of the group liked him anyway. They were eventually captured and brought to a place called Garderia. After a small internment there, they escaped with the artifact that they were sent to get. They returned to Iac South as heros and became full-fledged members of the community. After this, they stayed on at Iac South for another cycle of the moon, and then left. After a fortnight of travel, they found a way back home to Oerth.

They arrived back on Oerth in the Great kingdom in CY 567. From here, they decided to travel west, and after 4 months of riding, they found themselves crossing the border into Celene, the Kingdom of Elves. While they were there, Godarian discovered who he really was, and they were all welcomed by the royal court. By CY 568, they had all grown tired of staying in Celene, and they decided to travel more. They found themselves traveling towards the Free City of Greyhawk again, and as they got closer, they found a dimensional rift. Deciding to explore it, they found themselves on Mystra, in the nation of Glantri. Unfortunately, they also found out about the curse of le Château d'Amberville, and they solved that problem and freed Étienne d'Amberville. Then, they found away back to Oerth and this time, they arrived in the Free City of Greyhawk. By this time, Estaban's change to Neutral Evil was almost complete, thanks to many factors, the influence of the demi-plane of dread when he was there, the Temple of Elemental Evil, Gamma Terra, and even his experience at le Château d'Amberville. It was at this time that he felt ready to settle down and he decided that it would be easier to be a guild thief than to be a rogue thief, and so, with the help of the Thieves' guild, he set up Godarian and his other companions, they were caught, and barely escaped back to Celene, and Estaban was giving a teaching position in the thieves' guild. Knowing full well that Godarian would never forgive him, and knowing full well that Godarian had a lust for knowledge equal for Estaban's lust for power, he began looking for ways to increase his, and he found it one night while he was spying on a secret underground temple of Nerull for the guild.

As he fell asleep in his bed in the guild hall after his mission, Tharizdun came to him in a dream and offered him power if he would become his champion and help Nerull to release him from his slumber. He agreed and began the final leg of his journey towards his destiny. He worked hard, and became the assistant district master of the Garden Quarter for the thieves' guild in Greyhawk, and had a nice home in the Garden Quarter. He did missions for his master, and then, after a few months, he was told by Tharizdun to seek out Graz'zt and become a demon prince, and then to become an arch-devil. After he completed those two, Nerull would give him the final third of his power, that of the greater daemon. He traveled to Mezzafgraduun, and made a pact with Graz'zt, and this began their deal. He was given 5 years to come up with 5 items, and if he did it, than Graz'zt would make Estaban into a demon prince. He accomplished his goals in 4 years, but needed the help of Kalindra Nightstalker, one vampiress of great power, to get Maktai, Prince Starfire, a shoshea (grey elven for prophet). Estaban tricked Graz'zt and got his powers and kept Maktai's abilities as well, and escaped with his life.

It was during these four years that Estaban met Triana, an alu-demon who was a spelljamming captain for the Smuggler's Alliance, a semi-military alliance of smugglers, space pirates, and others, and had a brief affair with her. It was also during this time that he by chance (maybe?) stumbled upon Satan and Beliel, and made common cause against Asmodeous. Estaban promised to help Satan get his control back if he was made into an arch-devil. Satan, not completely sure about this, made an agreement with Jocato (non soul-binding) and Jocato went ahead and did his work. It was also during this time that he first meet and became friends with Jean d'Amberville, a fighter from Glantri who was the bastard son of Charles d'Amberville (from Charles's short period of adventuring). They had many adventures together, including some in the Free City of Greyhawk, where Jean fell in love with the city and all of her intrigues, and parted company as good friends. Jean returned to the Smuggler's Alliance and found a place for himself on Triana's ship, as a last favour to Jocato.

Jocato escaped Graz'zt and eventually found himself back in the bed of his old flame, Triana, aboard her ship. And, with Victor and Kalindra, they made their plans. Victor and Kalindra were both eventually told about Tharizdun, and about Estaban's journey towards his destiny. Eventually, Estaban made his way to the 9th hell with Jean d'Amberville at his side again and there, he defeated Asmodeous, and became the arch-devil in charge of politicians and bureaucrats. He named Beliel, General of Hell's armies as his proxy, and left the Nine Hells with Jean and returned to Bral, where the elder vampires where waiting for them, with Maktai. It was at this point where Estaban acquired a theorpart.

Estaban, Jean and Maktai parted company at this point from Kalindra and Victor, and the three of them traveled to the Khin-oin in the first Gloom of Hades, Oinos. There, Nerull finished the rites, and gave Jocato the powers of a greater daemon, making him the Champion of Tharizdun. From there, Estaban returned Maktai to Godarian and then he traveled to the Scarlet Brotherhood to meet with the Archamandrite of Tharizdun, Seroth. From here, Seroth, Elder Brother Gringel (one of the higher masters of the Scarlet Brotherhood, representing the Father of Obediance), and Estaban came up with their plan to impersonate the ruler of the Kingdom of Nyrond, King Archbold III, and take over the Kingdom of Nyrond, and use it as a satelite nation of the Scarlet ones. So, Estaban, Jean, and 12 assassins of the Brotherhood posing as knights left Kro Terlep and they began their journey towards Rel Mord, followed by an assorted group of troops to make it look like the army was returning, mostly Suloise and a few humanoids too.

Estaban arrived and suceeded in his attempt to fool the people of Nyrond that he was their ruler. He then (still impersonating Arbold), named himself as the heir to Nyrond (since the REAL Archbold had no children, his wife having died in childbirth). Jean was using some of the powers of Unbinder to make himself appear as Estaban. After a few weeks, during a huge ball to honour the new heir, Archbold was "assassinated" by "agents" of the Great Kingdom in front of many witnesses. He was shot three times in the chest by archers, who were caught, tried, and executed by the new King, Estaban Jocato.

One month to the day after the assassination of "Archbold", the new King proclaimed Nyrond an empire, and was crowned: His Most High Imperial Majesty, The Emperor of Nyrond, The Illustrious Praetor, Estaban Jocato I; Champion of Tharizdun; Duke of Flinthill; Altmeister of All the Aerdi; High Lord of Rel Mord; etc.

At current time, Estaban is in the process of expanding the influnce of the Ultimate Evil across the face of the Flanaess, and meanwhile, is still looking for the last part of the tri-part relic that will free Tharizdun. The forces of Tharizdun have two already, and the third one is rumored to be either in the hands of Iuz the Old, or somewhere in the Sea of Dust, the desert that was once the home of the Ancient Suloise Empire.

Estaban has also decided that the Nyrondal Empire and the Scarlet Brotherhood will be "allies" in the search for the last theorpart, and that the Empire will not be a puppet for the Father of Obedience.

Estaban is currently working on absorbing the Duchy of Tenh, the Bandit Kingdoms, the County of Urnst, the Theocracy of the Pale and the Bone March into the Nyrondal Empire. If he succeeds, then the Empire will almost quintuple in size, becoming larger than the Great Kingdom at it's height was. And with the power of the Theorpart and the support of the Scarlet Brotherhood, internal problems will be kept to a minimum. The County of Urnst and the Theocracy of the Pale pulled away their support from the Empire when it was learned that its ruler worshipped Tharizdun. This fact was made known because the Emperor funded a giant temple built for Tharizdun to be raised outside of Rel Mord, yet, at the same time, he hasn't as of yet attempted to force the religion onto the masses. He has allowed religious freedom to continue for the moment, and because of this, almost half of the populace support him. And the other half do not dare to oppose him, for fear of retribution by their Emperor, via his Stormtrooper corp, a group of elite fighting soldiers used to augment the Miliatry of the empire, and are sent to any troublespots as needed.

If he succeeds in growing out his Empire, then from here, Estaban will begin to search out the final part of the Theorpart and then free Tharizdun from his eternal slumber, allowing his master to retake his rightful place among the gods of the multiverse. If he is successful, Tharizdun has promised to reward him handsomely for his loyalty.

Estaban is completely loyal to Tharizdun, but at the same time, he will also look out for ways to increase his personal powers so as not to have to worry if Tharizdun changes his mind, a thought which has crossed Estaban's mind on more than one occasion (Tharizdun is not known as the God of Sanity (insanity?) for nothing).
