Evangelion is a highly recommended series that goes beyond the highest expectations. Shinji, a 14-year old boy, is suddenly called by from his father, who abandoned him when he was a little child. With a small hope of being reunited and loved by his father, Shinji arrives to the NERV headquarters with Misato guiding him. There he finds out why his father sent for him. Shinji is the 2nd child, who is able to "merge" with the EVA units. The EVA units are a kind of mechas that are used to fight against the "angels", grotesque monsters that attack the city. For some reason, only certain 14-year olds are able to pilot the mechas. So along with other children, Shinji fights against the angels, and reluctantly tries to save the world. He meets Rei-a strange mysterious girl who is closer to his father than he is, and Asuka-an upbeat competitive girl who makes fun of Shinji whenever given the chance.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is absolutely a wonderful series. The music isn't that bad and I watched the subbed version so I can't quite say how the english voice actors are. The animation quality is pretty good. I warn you that Evangelion is not a comedy so it can get you down sometimes. Sometimes quite violent and psychologically disturbing. The series is noted to be highly controversial. Mature situations revolving around the main characters are contributing factors to the controversy over the series and movie. If you're into mechas, this series may be the one for you. Evangelion is NOT recommended for younger viewers.
