      THE KEFIS TREE

The tree is tall and only seems to grow menacingly as you approach it. The Word "Kefis Tree" are carved into a small wood sign posted by the trees huge roots. You see the leaves shaking all around you and you lean on the base to see up into the tree. Blotches of color dance among the branches, and then suddenly stop. Four cat-like critters stair down at you with colorful eyes. One tiny one begins darting around again as do the others, playing some sort of game. One cat sits in the center of the tree and watches through his black eyes as the other cavort and hiss in good playfulness.

You can tell from the distance the others give him that the dark male must be the leader. His coat shimmers black to white and back again - spotted like a panther and seemingly coated with light. A thin chain around his neck, barely visible, hold a silver tag with large letters reading "JAYSOLE," his name you suppose. He sits, slumped very un-regally, over a thick branch in the center of the tree, watching the two females and the youngster play. The little male pup accidentaly runs into his side and you cringe, wondering if he'll bat the little one away like any self-absorbed ruler would, but instead he rolls with the little one, sitting the squirmy kitten on his upturned belly and tickling it. You laugh despite yourself!

A rainbow-bodied female with a chain reading "ILLYBA," stands to the side and watches the baby as it giggles and laughs. The baby runs back into the leaves, some falling around you as he dashes about with infant energy. The female nuzzles Jaysole affectionately and you see that she is his mate. He hugs her playfully, nearly toppling the both us them from their branches. It is then that the baby emerges from the leaves, followed by the other female you remember seeing.

The baby trips around the orange cat's feet. Her shiny coat and tag reading "ANITCHKA" glitter in the rays of light coming in around the leaves. She nuzzles Jaysole as well as she passes by and you remember that in packs the lead male often has more than one mate. This is just one big happy family - you smile! The little pup's fur glares in the light and you realized he's an albino! His eyes are pink and even his little nametage, carved with "ORSONE," is painted in white! He pads away into the leaves again and this time the male gets up and chases him. The females stay behind, giggling as you leave the family in peace.

The Kefis go about their business as you take a last look around at the lovely odd tree and the grounds around it. With a finally glance to the tree's occupants, you decide it is time to begin heading back into the greater open areas of the Kennels.....
