Golden Woods
          THE ORACLE'S GATE

Your feet crunch and skitter on the gravel that has replaced the mosses. A soft glow shines ahead, aallowing you to see a little better. Almost all the light is blocked now as you stumble along the path into a shadowed clearing. The glow is blocked suddenly, then flares into a portal! A swirling mist of firey golds and reds overwhelmed by gray and black. The trees seem to reach for it and it pulls you...

          "No."

You whirl at the sund of the voice coming from all around you...and find yourself up agains a vision. Gray swirls around a creature out of you nightmares and dreams, a creature of beauty and blackness...

Ths man before you seems human, but you know he is not. Wearing all black materials that seem gossamer and velvet, but that you sense are something much more ancient, he look at you with gleaming black eyes without pupils from under long lashes and thin brows. His long hair is pulled back by a band of...something you perhaps don't want to identify. It is long and perfectly straight, blown by the slight breeze blowing from the portal.

"Who...who are you?" You stammer as you stare into thise eyes. His answer as simply, elegent, and true.

"Perhaps you do not want to know." He walks past, seeming more to glide on his own power and presence than walk like a mortal. "But, ah. You are a curious one, young thing. All you need know of me is that I come from the land betwixt here and the destination of the Gate..." He motions toward the swirling gray surface he created not minutes before. You ask shakily where the dark thing leads. "Another thing I pray you never shall know. It is the Demon Gate and this is a Demon's Hearth, a sanctuary where a demon may rest and guard this gate at my side. When one deems me worthy, it shall come..." He moves toward the gate and chants...

"From the land in guarded power gained
And lost in mortal's combat oe'r again,
A flag dost fly and many bodies slain,
Do bring there heathen cry for my refrain.

And from this powers won and took to hand,
My tendrils oe'r this Gate and power span
To close thee now and forever hold you wait
And leash your power 'til the calls of fate...

It is powerful and chilling, frightening and beautiful. You decide that this is the time you should definitely leave. Summoning all your courage, you ask that dark man his name. "Call me Oracle." And with that, the gate closes in a flash of power, and takes this Oracle with it....
