The Guardian And Dimars' Weyr
"Welcome!" shouts the Guardian dragon as you enter. He is white, blindingly so, in fact, and as he moves, his scales wave hypnotically. He introduces himself as Ohme, a white Night Dragon and the guardian of the small Dimar clan here. They are in need of a guardian because they are comepletely defenseless. You ask him why, if they are defenseless, do they have claws. He answers that they could fight once, but the Dimar became a peace-loving race after many hundreds of generations of war. They have since lost all their fighting will and capabilities. He begins introducing you to the four Dimar that inhabit the small cavern...

He begins with a first couple, a blue and a purple. He says the blue one is a male Dimar named KoPavi. It means "Open Door" in Miccail, the language of the fictional Miccail race in the wonderful book Dark Water's Embrace by Stephen Leigh. It was the religion that these Miccail practiced rigidly, hopeing upon death to be recieved into the underworld where the Gods lived. Little KoPavi just thought it was pretty! Dimar can only communicate throught thought and emotion, for they have no voicebox. KoPavi's mate is the little purple, Njia, which means "The Way". This also has religious Mictlan overtones - it was the religion of the human settlers on that planet. She is a quiet one, never causing much of a fuss. He then moves on to the other couple. These are striped Dimars, he informs you, and you lean closer to see the faint stripes on the glistening hide of the small creatures. The purple striped on is the male in this mated pair. His name is Che'Veyo, which means "Spirit Warrior". Again, he just thought it was pretty and, like all Dimar, he is not prone to fighting. He much prefers accidentally crushing flowers on a forest path to purposefully crushing bodies on a war path. His little mate is the fusia striped Dimar, Kahina. Her name is another spirit reference, meaning "Elemental Spirit" in ancient Miccail. These are very beautiful animals, you tell him, and he just smiles and pets the little creatures like a prod, overjoyed papa. |
