"There's only one man who can stop all these killings," Broken Sword says to Nameless. "The King of Qin. Just one man's suffering means nothing compared to that of the entire nation's. There will be no separate kingdoms on perpetual wars against each other. I won't condone another mission to assassinate King Sheng."   Moon doesn't have what it takes to comprehend anything philosophical, but because it is Broken Sword who says it, she takes it for granted as truth.

Nonetheless Snow and Nameless have been agreeing to disagree with Broken Sword.   The only man whose skill equals Nameless' is Broken Sword.

Nameless is determined and won't get shaken by just an argument.   But because he can't understand what broken Sword says yet, it bothers him somewhat.

Zhang Ziyi is seen as an action girl by American moviemaniax, but that's wrong. She is a drama actress. She's lucky that Jet Li, who does kungfu everyday in his life, is there to help out with difficult takes like this.   Anyway, Snow and her faithful servant still want King Sheng dead a.s.a.p no matter how much it costs.

Even if it causes another rift between her and Broken Sword.   King Sheng comprehends what the calligraphy is all about, while Nameless can't even imagine what it means.

"The only man who understands me," says King Sheng in surprise, "is my worst enemy." He means Broken Sword.   Interlude: trix like this is magnificently done in Zhang Yimou's next great movie, starring Kaneshiro Takeshi, Andy Lau and Zhang Ziyi, House of Flying Daggers. The tear is for joy in finding the totally unexpected 'ally' of his enterprises all those years. Everybody else only thinks of King Sheng as a ruthless, merciless, power-hungry snatcher of other kings' territories.   The Lake of Sichuan, where Zhang Yimou dragged the entire cast to through a very long and bumpy ride, is so beautiful like an ancient watercolor painting. It reflects Broken Sword's conscience.

So King Sheng gives his own sword to Nameless.   "Kill me if you want to," he says. "Now that I know someone understands me after all, I won't regret it if I am to die today."
