Naruto Osei and his sister were orphaned when a band of robbers killed their entire family.   They became geishas to scrap a living with; Osei crossdresses not only because of the job but because he feels most comfortable in such outfit, too.

It is Osei who stars in their shows, not the sister. He's a good dancer.

Being mobile entertainers, the two came to know all the worst kinds of people, such as the Japanese mobsters, the yakuza.

The gang war this time involves the actor Asano Tadanobu -- who used to play dubious characters in other movies.   All of these men and more are challenging one man, Asano's role, who belongs to a rival gang.

A foregone conclusion. Before getting so much as to challenge him, they should have watched Asano Tadanobu's hit, Ichi the Killer (2003)   Or his other movie, The Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl (2004).

Asano, though, isn't another lone wolf. His wife is waiting at home. It is to pay for her constant medicine (she has TB) that the husband takes up any job.

This is no treat for those expecting a touristic kind of Japan. Look at Shinkichi's paper umbrella.   Males of the house bath first, women had to wait, that's the rule in Tokugawa Japan. Shinkichi grumbles but can't deny Osei's right to take a bath first, too, because he is a man.

The Naruto 'sisters' finally find the target of their revenge, quite accidentally.   But they are no match for the country samurai that bodyguard the yakuza boss.
