Events of Tech Theater Winter Term 2007
As Told By Katelyn Redinger
January 10th - My first day of class. I will only ever show up on Wednesdays and Fridays. I was given permission to miss all Mondays due to my current position on Student Council. All the meetings and class interfere with the class, so I will only come twice a week, as opposed to three times. Today, I met the crew, some old faces, and many new. We are constructing the set for Howard Street's production of Wizard of Oz.
January 12th - Today we worked more on Howard Street's set. I helped move in a load of furniture and other set pieces from a truck outside. i was placed in a group to construct a small house in a small segmented corner. I also assisted with hinging the doors on the gate to Oz.
January 17th - Class was cancelled today, and while our small group waited for Terry to come to us, I helped lay out the curtains for the set with Claire.
January 19th - Alas, the second week of school, and I have received my first cold. First and counting. I think it will be a season of many sickness ^^ Not very optimistic, but winter + me does not equal happy fun time :P
January 24th - Today our class discussed the term project. It sounds unique and exciting. Only thing I am a little peeved about is I won't get to work with any props this term -.- Oh well. I hope to build on some of my other areas, and get my hands dirty building a neat set. Here's some of the notes I took for the project:
The Quintessential Interpretation Project
About 30-40 minutes in length
3 movements - Formations CD
Object: cost nothing!
1st movements industrial |
-single drums -build to crescendo -rapid return to single drum
|
2nd movement softer colors almost serene |
-pastoral lighting -strings w/formations blending in towards the end |
January 26th - My bug has returned, or else it's something new. Winter: 2 Katelyn: 0
January 31st - Assigned to clean a tool cabinet. I did so with great zeal and zest. New items for our interesting set have arrived. Some pallets, and also a trombone o.o I helped bring them inside out of the rain.
February 2nd - Today, I organized and stored some stray lighting equipment that was discovered during my cupboard clean up on Wednesday. I also assisted Brandon with some of the set construction. I had to leave an hour early today so I could go to Portland for modeling work.
February 7th - The groups were segregated today. A marketing/PR team and a construction team. I didn't want to just loaf with my laptop on the PR team, so I decided to join the men on the Construction Team. No one really told me to do anything, so I played around with a plate rack and some rope. more pallets arrived from storage ^^
February 9th - Loose lighting equipment has found its way into my caregiving. I did a little gel organizing up in the light equipment room, and I am astonished at how much more can be done. We also did a rough stage clean-up so the theater could be used by the school for an event. I had to leave and hour early again for work in Portland.
February 14th - Happy Valentines Day! Today was particularly dull. My boyfriend is sick, and I have work tonight, We won't get to see each other much at all today. Shame. Today in class, the Construction Team brainstormed some new features for set. I moved my "plate rack corset" onto a baton today from stage left, and re-screwed the rope into the poles. I assisted Paperweight on the facing and bracing on the front of the set, and we chatted about what we were like when we were kids. o.o not much has changed
February 16th - E-mails at the Ambassador Officer were overloaded, so I had to work an hour longer to catch them all up. My coworker in the Caribbean on a cruise, so I'm the only one doing them now -.-; It's so unfair. When I got to class I discovered that it was going slow anyways. Everyone was really sick, but Ari and I screwed a pallet into the side of the set for a traumatic ladder effect. Today, I also got very bored with the duration I decided to stay, in which I constructed a sea fish from scrap wood.
February 21st - I have been plagued again. The earth is beating me. Winter: 3 Katelyn: 0
February 23rd - I spent most of the class sitting in a wheelless wheelchair while the boys dinked around the Tilting Pillar concept of the set. They were moving batons and big pillars, so not a lot of movement could happen on the set for safety reasons. I made some muslin facing for the set, and broke a nail in the process. One of the pillars got patched by me, and I helped sweep the stage in prep for it to be painted later.
February 28th - The majority of the class period was spent painting the stage with Nate. He painted me into a corner. That sucked.
March 2nd - As I pranced around in heals, and went solo without direction from anyone, I built Terry a whale named Thebus. Thebus the Scrap Wood Whale, and his cohort, Drood the Scrap Wood Sea Fish, are now trying to get parts in Terry's theatrical masterpiece.
March 7th - Nate was having some difficulty with rotating wheelchair wheels, so that they would move in sync with the pillars as they tilted. I solved the problem, and happy joy time was had throughout the land. After my tremendous accomplishment, the house lights were lowered for lighting to be done, and I fell asleep in the back of the theater...lol...sorry.
March 9th - Thebus has been given a part in the show! He is cascade across the front of the stage during the first movement. I fixed castors to his belly, and then did it again since I don't know how to use them ^^; Hee hee. I also had my interview for the documentary today. I'm not fond of cameras, video or image. I think that I look weird in every picture I'm in O.O It's really weird.
March 13th and March 15th - And so the semester kicks my butt. I have been beat by Winter. I now have a sinus infection and bronchitis. This whole week kind of sucked for me. I missed a lot of valuable classes for Finals Week, and I was miserable. I always feel like a poor student when I miss a ton of class. By about 3:00 PM today, though, with standard classes being over for the term, it seems the weather has changed overnight. It's warm again, and the term is coming to an end. Spring had arrived.
