Anne: Allies by Ben: The Vampire Hunter b_church@yahoo.com Feedback! Please! Buffy and the plot belong to Joss Whedon. Dragonboy and Daemon are mine. Travis looked impassively at the body before him. He kept a tight reign on his temper. He had to find out who was doing this, and how, before he brought them down. "Well, well, well. Small world." Travis looked up to the fire escape above him. A young man in black, wearing dark shades despite the gloom in the alley, with long black hair, sat perched on the railing. "Daemon." Travis said simply. "What brings you to this neck of the woods?" "Same as you I'd imagine." the boy said. He dropped the two stories to the street below, landing in a crouch. "All these lost souls," he indicated the dead man. "Being drained of life. I picked up a signal on my dimensional monitor." "Hmmm." Travis said. "I live here now, and sensed something was up. But I'm not getting any major signs of magic, except for a tiny trace signature. Nothing along the power lines as it would take to do this to someone." "Are you thinking what I'm thinking then?" Daemon smiled wryly. "Time displacement." they said simultaneously. "We need to find out what these people had in common." Travis said. "They were all living on the streets." Daemon said. "Good point." "It was? I was being sarcastic." "No, it was. Whatever's doing this, is picking these people, because no one would ever miss them." "Ah ha." A blonde girl came up to their table. "Hiya Travis, what can I get you today?" "Anne!" Travis smiled. "I'll have the usual. Oh, this is," "David." Daemon introduced himself. "I'll have a slice of, what kind of pie do you have?" "Some sort of peach pie." she answered. "I'll have that and a glass of milk." "It's your stomach." she said sardonically. "One veggie burger and Root Beer, one Food Poisoning Platter." Anne went off to get their order. "Well," Daemon smiled slyly. "Dragonboy's got a lady friend?" "Oh please!" Travis laughed. "Sure, she's pretty, but she's not interested." "But if she was?" "Can we get back on track here?" "That's what I thought." Travis didn't recognize anyone here. But he supposed that was the point. It hadn't taken them long to track down the phony shelter. They'd just honed their senses to find a portal, or some disturbance in the space time continuum. As soon as they'd found it, they'd both altered their appearances, and gotten themselves "sheltered". So here he was in a cell, in some other world, where time passed much more quickly. There were three other people in the cell with him, all were quiet and looked like they'd already given in to despair. He and Daemon had been separated. The door opened and a really ugly demon ordered them out. Travis and, elsewhere, Daemon both worked hard at keeping their tempers at bay. It was not something either was great at. Daemon being a distant relative of Satan himself, and Travis the son of a union between a Dragon and a mortal woman. "You work, you live." the Demon said, as they arrived at some sort of factory. "You don't, you die. You will not think, you will not talk, you will do nothing but work. Who you were, what you thought, does not matter. You are no one now." He walked up to a cowering little girl. "Who are you?" he asked. "Rebecca." she said shyly. The Demon hit her brutally across the face. "That's it!" Travis snarled, releasing his fury. His slight frame shot up a foot, his muscles getting larger. His eyes glowed red, his skin became red and scaly. Claws sprouted from his hands and feet, and huge, batlike wings from his back. And flames shot from his nostrils. "You're going down!" Before the Demon could react, he was engulfed in flames. Dragonboy turned to the frightened people behind him. "It's all right." he said to them. "I'm getting you out here." Daemon stood still as the Demon went down the line. Finally, it was his turn. "Who are you?" Daemon blinked, removing his guise. The Demon backed away in shock, from the boy's eyes, from the utter blackness within them. "I AM SOMEONE!" He struck out, his hands not making contact with the demon, but the thing was flung across the room, over several conveyer belts, and slammed into the wall. It's bones shattered, and it fell to the ground, dead. "A far quicker death than the rest will receive." he promised himself. Another, behind him, slammed a sledgehammer into the back of his skull. He turned, not phased in the least, and grabbed the Demon by the throat. "Well," he said to it. "That didn't work. Did it." He crushed the thing's skull against a wall. The others with him cowered in fear. "I've gotta watch that." he muttered. "We're getting out of here." he said. "Be not afeared." At about the same time that Dragonboy and Daemon were striking out, Buffy herself was fighting as well. She ran, waiting for just the right place to make her stand. Then she spotted it, a platform in the center of the factory. She jumped up, and still running, grabbed a pole on one side. Using her momentum, she swung around and slammed her feet into one of the pursuing Demons. Suddenly, two more, who looked nothing like the others leaped onto the platform as well. She started to go into a defensive position, waiting for them to attack, when she noticed that they were being pursued as well. Then she recognized one of them. "David?" she asked incredulously, wondering how Travis' friend from the diner had gotten himself down here. And if Travis knew that his friend was a Demon. The two turned, and the red one, with wings, seemed the most surprised. "Anne!" it cried. "What the hell are you doing here?" Buffy's eyes widened when she realized who the red Demon was. "Travis?" The winged Demon sighed. "I guess we've got a lot of explaining to do to each other." he said. "But now's not the time." Before Buffy could agree or disagree, the two leaped into the mob of Demon enforcers. Buffy was soon caught up in her own battle. Buffy stared at what was now an ordinary pool of water. "My God," she thought. "All those people still trapped there. Travis, David." She mourned them silently, knowing she would probably never see either of them again. Epilogue January 5th Sunnydale California "The Beautiful People, the beautiful people!" the sounds of Marilyn Manson blasted from the loudspeakers. "Great." Buffy sighed. "Goth night at the Bronze. No wonder no one I know is here. Why didn't anyone warn me?" She got up to leave, and then saw something that made her sigh again. Two Vamps dragging a boy outside. "Duty calls." she muttered. Outside, she stalked the alleyway, looking for the two Vampires. She heard the sound of a struggle around the corner, and ran in that direction. Then she heard the unmistakable sound of a Vampire being dusted. "Huh," she thought. "Maybe Mister Innocent Victim isn't as much a victim as we thought." By the time she got there, the other Vampire had gone the way of the first. She gasped when she saw who the boy was. "Travis?" Travis looked up, smiling. "Buffy!" he said happily. "I hoped I would bump into you here!" "What are you doing here?" she said, hugging him. "Last I saw you, you were trapped in Hell. And how'd you know where I am, and what my name is?" Travis smiled again. "That's an interesting story." he said. "First off, Anne, the girl you got a job at the diner told me where you were, and your name. That's how I found you. "As for how I got out, well, first you need to know a little something about me. I'm not entirely human." "Yeah, I figured that much out myself." she said wryly. "Well, see I'm not a demon. I'm a Dragon. Well, half Dragon, half human." "Huh?" Buffy had dealt with all sorts of things, but she never figured she'd meet a Dragon. Much less a good one. "A long time ago, the majority of the worlds magical creatures fled this world, and moved into the world of Faery. That's why they're a lot less frequent than they used to be. Anyway, that includes Dragons. My father, took human form and came back to this world, out of curiosity. While he was here, he got married. Hence, me. A Human Dragon Hybrid. "Among my many talents, is limited telepathy, and Dimension Travel. Between us, Daemon and I were able to free the minds of those still trapped in that world. And, according to Daemon it's not Hell. At least not in the classical sense. He's been there. "But I digress. Dimension travel. I'm instinctively linked to Faery, even though I wasn't born there. No matter where I am, I can always get there. From there, I can find my way to any dimension I've been to. So, there you have it. The short version of our miraculous escape." Buffy shook her head, it was a bit much to take in. "I just wanted to let you know that we got out. And that those Bastards wont' be stealing people from their worlds again. Ever." Buffy nodded, and thanked him. He handed her a phone number. "Here, if you ever need my help, this is where you can reach me." "Thanks again." she said, hugging him good bye. "See you around." "Keep in touch." he said, and walked off into the night. "It's good to have allies." Buffy thought to herself as she headed home. The End
