Nemesis.

When shall the impious
Race of mankind
Cease from their folly,
When shall they strive
To banish the Evil,
To cherish the Good?

O World of wickedness
I do abhor thee,
I the implacable
Daughter of Night.
Mine the appointed
Labour to punish
Corruption and crime.

Labour unceasing
Jove hath assigned
To me who ma Justice
And Rigour commingled.
Rest and sweet slumber
To me are unknown.
Onward I wander,
Ever invisible,
Reading the hearts
And marking the acts
Of treacherous Man.

Ever is Evil
Brought to my ken.
Like to a river
Speeding to Ocean,
Ever increasing
As it rolls on,
So is the current
Of Evil on impious Earth.

Woe to the heedless
Intractable race
That revels in lust and sin.
Pity may never
Lurk in my bosom
For Man the vile scoffer
At Heaven's decrees.

Through the wide city,
In the rude hamlet,
On the broad ocean,
To and fro have I sped
Searching for Rectitude.
Fruitless my labour;
The Good that existeth
Is ever enshrin'ed
Of Selfishness.

Jove the omnipotent!
Thou didst invest me
With power to punish
Impiety,
To scourge the workers of Ill,
I bow to the high decree.
Thine is the vengeance,
Thy willing Instrument
Unto all ages am I.

Jove thou didst gift me
With power to succour the Good;
Take back, dread Ruler,
Take back thy gift, I implore.
Goodness and Virtue!
Vain the endeavour
To find such as merit
Reward from a bountiful hand.

Yea!  from my bosom
Banished are ever
Kindness and Clemency;
Mine by the duty,
The labour unceasing
To punish the wicked
By sea and by land.
The wicked shall tremble,
Awe-stricken shall whisper
The name of the Goddess of Wrath.

By sea and by land
Shall the workers of Evil
Be Nemesis' victims --
The victims of Justice and Wrath.
None shall escape me,
Death the Destroyer
May not deprive me
Of mine appointed prey,
For should the wicked
In their wild terror
Flee to the Stygian shades,
Through the dread regions
Shall I pursue them
Unto Hell's uttermost bounds,
There to outmeasure
Punishment fitting
A lifetime of Folly and Crime.

Onward I hasten
By Heaven's appointment
To scourge and to punish;
I the implacable
Daughter of Night.
