“I always thought we'd be friends forever”
“Yeah, well forever got a lot shorter all of a sudden”
My summary and opinion of St Elmo’s Fire
A Brat Pack movie about a group of seven friends who just got out of college and are out facing the real world. The gang of seven contains four guys and three girls. Alec (played by Judd Nelson) is the leader of the group, he is a wealthy enough guy who’s working his way in politics. Billy (played by Rob Lowe) is the troubled one in the gang, he cheats and lies, he is married and has a child and he cannot keep jobs, most of them provided to him by Alec. Kevin (played by Andrew McCarthy) is a wannabe writer who can’t seem to get the right story, he is often mistook for being gay, he isn’t the most optimistic person when it comes to love and his work. Kirbo (played by Emilio Estevez) although he is a main character he spends most of the movie obsessively stalking an old school mate (played by Andie MacDowell) and isn’t really part of the main story, in my opinion his character could be cut. Leslie (played by Ally Sheedy) is Alec’s girlfriend since there years in college, they just moved in together, he wants to get married but she hesitates on giving him an answer because she thinks that he is being unfaithful. Jules (played by Demi Moore) is a troubled girl who sleeps around a lot, she has money trouble and is a compulsive liar, she tends to be over dramatic and tends to creates self dramas. Wendy (played by Mare Winningham) is a sweet character who always has doubts about herself, she doesn’t believe in herself enough, she is really insecure. She is still a virgin and is dating Billy who uses her terribly. In the movie the gang faces many challenges, they save, love and even betray each other. This film is really worth seeing, so I suggest you run along to a store and rent it out immediately!
Interesting fact: The characters of the movie graduated from Georgetown University but the Georgetown University administration didn’t allow the producers to film on campus, so the campus scene where Billy goes back to Georgetown was filmed at the University of Maryland.
The Soundtrack: I have and love the St Elmo’s Fire soundtrack, so if you loved the music from the movie I recommend you get the great soundtrack.
