I believe these guys were originally from Richmond, Virginia.  The lead singer's a guy by the name of Willis Pittman and he has quite a voice.  Bother sides are definitely Gospelish, but have more than enough soul quotient to make them of interest to a non-secular audience.  The flip side sports a nice Pops Staples-styled guitar.
