The Distant Cousins were apparently a studio entity featuring Larry Brown and Raymond Bloodworth. At one point in time Bloodworth was a songwriter signed to Bob Crewe's DynoVoice label where he placed material with The Four Season ('C'mon Marianne', Richard & the Young Lions ('Open Your Door' and 'Lost and Found'). Those successes apparently led DynoVoice to give Bloodworth and his partner Larry Brown a chance to record on their on.
This was their fourth single (the second for Date Records). Musically the 'A' side is a pretty bland slice of top-40 pop. Imagine an over-orchestrated ballad out of the Chad and Jeremy, or Peter and Gordon catalog and you'll be in the right area. Ironically the flip side's 100 times better. An upbeat and energetic rocker with a cool banjo and organ pattern it's catchy and should've been the choice for the 'A' side.
