The first time I heard the 'A' side I thought it was The Shocking Blue on a bad acid trip ... Ask most folks what they know about German rock and roll and nine out of ten folks will give you a look of disdain, or simply mutter 'Krautrock'. Mention The Rattles and you're likely to get a look of puzzlement. That's unfortunate since this early 1970s version of the band powered by Israeli singer Edna Bejarano, drummer Herbert Bornhold, guitarist Frank Mille, and bassist Zappo Luenge cut some terrific material including this English lyric rework of a 1968 German hit. Kicked along by Bejarano's heavily accented shriek, Mille's fuzz guitar and some totally freaked out orchestral arrangements, the result is two and a half minutes of psych madness. The flip side's a more conventional pop song with an interesting oboe solo.
