The Mercy & Love Can Make You Happy - Sundi 803

I'll readily admit the 'A' side is one of those take it or leave it songs. Hideously MOR, it's a guilty pleasure for me since it's one of the first 45s I ever bought.  Singer/producer Steve Alaimo actually discovered the group.  "They were from Tampa, a weird little group that showed up at my studio.  I liked the song and recorded it.  The record initially came out on Sundi, a Henry Stone label.  It did well locally and Warner Brothers picked it up. I was surprised it became a big hit."   As for the flip side, who would have ever expected the flip side to be gritty fuzz-guitar propelled surf instrumental?   Well these guys were from Florida so maybe it shouldn't have been a total surprise !!!  Both tracks were originally recorded for the soundtrack for a film entitled "Fireball Jungle" but the film was shelved.
