Jeremiah | I Saw Your Picture In the Paper | David Brown | This one had that magical "Revolver' era vibe - Fantastic song kicked along by a wonderful top-40 melody that you won't be bale to get out of your head; McCartney-styled lead bass line; chill inducing harmony vocals and a killer lead guitar from pat Walters (of future Spongetones fame). |
Key, The | The Farmer and the Fisherman | Volker Langefeld | Who would have expected a late-1970s Anglo-German duo to come up with one of the best if least known Beatlesque LPs. The album's lead off track, 'The Farmer and the Fisherman' captured the 'Magical Mystery Tour' aura almost perfectly. |
Orange, Richard | Big Orange Sun | Richard Orange | Orange was the front man for the Memphis-based Zuider Zee. It took him a couple of decades to get around to releasing a solo effort and when he did, the collection showcased his Beatles fixation. The title track had a distinctive "Magical Mystery Tour" vibe complete with clunky piano; backward tapes, masked voices, etc. Very nice. |
Orange, Richard | Beatlesque | Richard Orange | The title probably gives you a pretty good clue ... Somebody's been spending a little too much time listening to the "White Album". Interestingly, on this cut Orange sounded like Lennon. |
Tears for Fears | Sowing the Seeds of Love | Roland Orzabel, Curt Smith | About as close to recreating the Fab Four's distinctive psychedelic feel as you could go without getting sued for plagerism. |
Tears for Fears | Everyone Loves a Happy Ending | Roland Orzabel, Curt Smith | Just by the parent album ("Everyone Loves a Happy Ending") since the whole thing has a Beatles flavor to it. |
Tears for Fears | Who Killed Tangerine | Roland Orzabel, Curt Smith | Just by the parent album ("Everyone Loves a Happy Ending") since the whole thing has a Beatles flavor to it. |
