Welcome to BadCat Records. This venture's a hobby for me and a way to keep my wife happy by clearing out some of the 35,000 LPs I've collected over the years. As a result I don't have nearly as much at stake as someone doing this for a living. My primary goals are pretty straightforward - keeping this fun and keeping it a self-supporting financial proposition.
I've kept this website simple, slowly uploading rare, obscure and personal favorites from a collection of 35,000+ LPs.
Over the years I've picked up all kinds of obscure stuff, but the listings are heavily geared towards country-rock, folk, pop, progressive, psych, rock and soul offerings. Most of this stuff never came close to top-40 charts and was bought because I wanted to hear it, rather than to make a profit.
Most items in the catalog include a photo of the LP cover, grading information, and at least some bibliographical and descriptive material. Click on the artist name to find a brief review of the album, along with track listings and biographical information.
Unlike a lot of other dealers I don't gouge buyers on postage costs. I charge you the actual mailing costs and a dollar to cover the cost of the specialized LP and 45 mailers and cardboard inserts I use to pack LPs and 45s.
Check out my record reviews - I try to be objective which means some of the items I'm selling don't get glowing reviews since I simply didn't like all that much. Regardless, they're only opinions so take them with a grain of salt. My loss could be your gain.
If you're truly bored, you can also look at my list of favorite album covers (good and band). I'm also working on references of banned/withdrawn covers and clever LP covers and marketing packages.
Finally - My website is not copyrighted so you're free to borrow material. That said, please have the courtesy to let me know you're using something, or at least provide a credit back to my website. Sadly I've come across repeated instances where folks have lifted my words without letting me no, or without a credit. There's one blog that's repeatedly grabbed LP reviews without credit leaving the impression they were written by the blog owner. I'm also aware of at least one set of liner notes for a recent CD reissue that were cribbed verbatim from one of my reviews. Again, no credit or attempt to contact me. Poor internet manners at the very least ...
