Signed by ABC, the band debuted with the 1968 single "Such a Fuss About Sunday" b/w "What Can I Do". A minor local hit, the single's success led ABC to finance a supporting album. Produced by Tom Wilson, "11pm Saturday" offered up an interesting slice of soul-rock. Musically the album features a standard mix of originals and popular covers (largely geared towards soul material). Sporting four quality singers in the form of Alexander, Fred Griffith, David "Redtop" Thomas and Rodney Young the sounds quite diverse, bouncing around between conventional soul to Association-styled harmony rich pop ("Such a Fuss About Sunday" and "Hey You"). Highlights include Alexander's "Back On the Farm" and a stunning a capella "Every Night". The fact there are simply too many covers and the absence of a distinctive sound ultimately keep this from being a classic LP. Anyone know if this thing was recorded live? The closing medley is obviously live, while their cover of The Impressions' "I've Been Trying" sounds like a studio piece until you hear audience sounds ...
