I swear I didn't know this was Jackson Browne's younger brother ...  In fact the only reason I bought this was the fact I was curious to hear why Motown would have signed a kinda' goofy lookin' white singer/songwriter (I'm still wondering).

I'm sure that the fact Severin had a successful brother had nothing to do with his being signed to Motown.  According to Browne's own website, the connection with Motown started with Browne being hired as a staff writer.  Berry Gordy Jr. apparently made the offer to record Browne, who was less than thrilled at the thought, but eventually took advantage of the offer.  Produced by Larry Murray and backed by an all-star cast of musicians including brother Jackson, Linda Ronstadt, and J.D. Souther, 1973's cleverly titled 'Severin Browne" showcased material Browne had written over the previous three years.  Musically singer/songwriter material such as 'Stay', 'Snow Flakes' and 'Sister' wasn't all that different than brother Jackson's catalog, though Severin's voice was a bit lighter, while his lyrics were more romantic than Jackson's catalog.  Not exactly earth shattering and Motown did next to nothing to promote it, but probably worthwhile if you like Jackson ...  Motown also tapped the album for a single, though I've never seen a stock copy of it - 'Dear Christine' b/w 'Dear Christine' (Motown catalog number M 1258F).
