In the wake of Jim Croce's death Cashman and West returned to the studio for 1974's "Lifesong". Musically the set wasn't a major change from their earlier catalog - a mix of commercially oriented singer/songwriter ballads and slightly harder rocking numbers. Full of pleasant melodies and nice harmonoes, technically there wasn't anything wrong with material such as "Maury", "A Man Can't Always Be" and "I Could Feel the Morning". On the other hand, there isn't much that really jumps out at you. Probably because it rocks a little harder than their norm ("Rock Me To the Music") and because its so goofy ("Tuna Fish Song") stand as the two highlights for us. Dunhill also chose to release the title track b/w "I Could Feel the Morning" as a single (Dunhill catalog number D15021). With little promotion the parent LP managed to hit # 202 on the pop charts. While the album marked the end of their recording partnership (each undertook a solo career), they continued their business partnership with the formation of Lifesong Records.
