Critics have never
been particularly kind to The Connells' third LP. That's a shame since
to our ears 1989's "Fun & Games"
offers up a wonderful collection of jangle rock. Largely produced by
Gary Smith, the collection boasts a tougher, more rock-oriented sound.
Credit guitarist George Huntley for his five compositions, including 'Sal'
and ''Motel. Some fans were apparently put off by that new found
direction, but to our mind it's a nice change of pace. Mind you,
exemplified by Mike Connell-penned selections such as ''Something To Say',
'Hey Wow' and the title track the group's affection for highly commercial,
pop-rock melodies remained intact. 1.) Something To Say (Mike Connell) - 2.) Fun & Games (Mike Connell - Doug MacMillan) - 3.) Sal (George Huntley - Mike Ayers - Pelle Wimberly) - 4.) Upside Down (Mike Connell) - 5.)
Motel (George Huntley) - (side 1) 1.) Hey Wow (Mike Connell) - 2.) Ten Pins (Mike Connell - George Huntley - Doug MacMilan) - 3.) Inside My Head (George Huntley) - 4.) Uninspired (Mike Connell - Doug MacMillan) - 5.) Sat Nite (USA) (Mike Connell - Doug MacMillan - David Connell - Pelle Wimberly) - 6.) Lay Me
Down (George Huntley) -
