On their debut The Deviants were admittedly amateurs who got by on balls and enthusiasm more than musical talent.  1968's self-produced "Disposable" remains raw, but reflects the tremendous musical strides the band made in a year.  Nobody would mistake these guys for an accomplished rock band, but this time around they seem to understand some of the basic concepts - melody, rhythm, etc.  Musically the set offered up another mix of social activism/anarchy (the goofy stoned in the studio "Slum Lord"), weird English humor ("Sparrows and Wires") and conventional rock.  At least to our ears, this time around the strongest songs were  those that were the most conventional - "Somewhere To Go", the blues-rocker"You've Got To Hold On" and "Slum Lord".  For goodness sake, overlooking the lyrics, "Fire In the City" sounded like a top-40 pop ditty!
