While this isn't a truly rare album (which isn't to imply you're going to find it around every corner), it's easily one of the coolest (and heaviest) we've come across in ten years of collecting. Other than the fact the back cover lists the members' first names as Danny, Drew, Geoff, Jesse and Joe we'll be the first to admit they're complete unknowns to us ... (Oh, we can tell you that one major reference work indicates they may have been from the New York area.)

Produced and largely written by Milan (supposedly one Rick Rondell - doubt we're talking about the Italian city), 1969's "Head Shop" starts out in full meltdown glory (check out the crazed feedback title track opener) and seldom lets up over the course of the next nine selections. Exemplified by original material such as "Heaven Here We Come" and "Listen with a Third Ear" the set is full of weird studio effects (repeated channel hopping makes it a dandy album to listen to with headphones), tons of guitar feedback (be sure to check out their slow motion cover of Bobby Hebb's "Sunny") and oddball timings (as well as some surprisingly sweet group harmonies) Other highlights included the second side's "Prophecy" and "Infinity". Actually, the only real misstep is "Opera In thr Year 4000" which is nothing more than an awful medley of "Where Have All the People Gone" and "Yesterday" (the flute backing is enough to make you gag). If it helps, it sounds like they were actually trying to be lame on this one. One of our favorite obscurities, the only reason we're selling it is that we have a second copy.

"The Head Shop" track listing:
1.) Head Shop (Milan - Maxim - R. Craig) - 2:56
2.) Heaven Here We Come (Milan) - 2:40
3.) Sunny (Bobby Hebb) - 3:11
4.) Listen with a Third Ear (Milan - Maxim) - 2:30
5.) Opera In the Year 4000 (Where Have All the People Gone/Yesterday) (Milan/John Lennon - Paul McCartney) - 4:25
6.) Revolution (John Lennon - Paul McCartney)- 2:28
7.) I Feel Love Comin' On (Milan) - 6:20
8.) Prophecy (Milan - Maxim) - 2:17
9.) Infinity (Milan) - 4:45

The LP seems to be their only recording venture.
