Also produced by mentor Jeff Barry, 1969's "Baby I Love You" wasn't a major musical departure for the then 17 year old Andy Kim (he sure looked older). Kim's most commercial outing for Steed, it was also his dullest collection with Barry shoving a bunch of bland and over-orchestrated MOR pop covers like 'By The Time I Get To Phoenix' and 'This Guy's In Love With You' down Kim's throat. For a guy who enjoyed his initial success writing bubblegum classics (remember he co-wrote 'Sugar, Sugar'), most of the originals (co-written with Barry) proved major disappointments. Stuff such as 'Walkin' My La De Da' and 'I'll Be Loving You' exhibited none of the melody or flair of their work for The Archies, The Monkees, etc.. Still, the guy had a decent voice and deserved credit for doing the best he could in the circumstances and a couple of songs including an up-tempo cover of Tim Hardin's 'If I Were A Carpenter' and The Archies-styled clones 'Let's Get Married' and ''This Is The Girl' were okay. Simply because it demonstrated a hard rock edge (okay, that's a relative comment - the song at least featured a nifty guitar solo) that was quite different than the rest of the album, the standout track was 'Didn't Have To Tell Her'.
