One of my top-10 soul favorites and probably the
second best O'Jays performance ever. Enough of a rock edge to appeal
to rock fans and enough soul vocal to attract soul fans. You just
don't hear anything like this on the radio anymore, though an entirely new
generation of fans learned about the song when it got picked as the theme
for Donald Trump's 'The Apprentice' television series. The flip's a
decent enough track with a catchy hook and chorus, but it pales compared to
the crunching 'A' side.
