Released by the cheapo exploito Springboard Records (actually the Springboard affiliated Sculpture label), "Sly Stone Recorded In San Francisco: 1964-67" pulls together a haphazard mixture of pre-Sly and the Family Stone efforts. In terms of quality the nine tracks are all over the spectrum, ranging from surprisingly good ('Take My Advice' and the weird Broadway-meets-rock 'Life of Future & Fame''') to abysmal (the 1950s flavored instrumental 'My Love', a needless cover of Herbie Hancock's 'Watermelon Man'' and the raw demo 'Rock Dirge'). Weirdest of the weird - Sly's spoken work cover of 'Deck of Cards'. Elsewhere, ' I Ain't Got Nobody' was eventually released as the first Sly and the Family Stone single. The complete absence of useful liner notes doesn't exactly help the set, so it's probably of little interest to anyone other than hardcore Sly fans.
