Linda Thompson remains best known for her marital and musical partnership with Richard Thompson (see separate entry). In the wake of the couple's 1982 divorce Linda took a stab at acting, including several theatre roles, before eventually reappearing with a brief solo career.

Released by Warner Brothers, 1985's "One Clear Moment" aptly displayed Thompson's deep, soulful and incredibly sexy voice and her intelligent songwriting (something she didn't get to do much of in her time with Richard). Produced by Hugh Murphy, the album featured a first rate collection of mostly original material. Like Richard's post-divorce LP ("Hand of Kindness"), lyrically and thematically material such as "Telling Me Lies", "In Love with the Flame" "and "Hell, High Water and Heartache" literally overflowed with deep seated resentment and hostility. Needless to say, the collection was darkly depressing, though the title track and "Can't Stop the Girl" were momentarily uplifing and deserved to have been hits ... One of the year's most impressive debuts, the album was completely ignored by the buying public, barely hitting the American charts at #202..

Suffering from hysterical dysphonia (a psychological disease which left her unable to sing - imagine severe stage fright), Thompson subsequently dropped out of music, opening an antique jewelry store in London.  The disease quickly ended a brief attempt at a late-'80s comeback.  Unable to sing, Thompson turned her attention to writing, placing a number of songs with name acts, including 1987's "Telling Me Lies" which earned a Grammy nomination for country song of the year.
