After leaving The Lovin' Spoonful in late 1967 (see separate entry), guitarist Zal Yanovsky returned to his native Canada. With his reputation serious damaged by claims he'd narc'ed on someone to avoid a potential jail term, Yanovsky started what turned out to be a low-key and highly unsuccessful solo career. Initially signed by Buddah, his 1968 debut "Alive and Well In Argentina" stood as one of the year's odder offerings. Highlighting Yanovsky's strained voice and strange sense of humor, material such as "You Talk To Much", "Brown To Blue" and "Hip Toad" haphazardly bounced from one musical genre to another. Intriguing, in part because it was so weird, the collection was greeted with universal disdain; quickly relegated to cutout bins.
