This one caught our attention at a yard sale for
the connection with Huey P. Meaux (he produced the album).
Prior to Heather Black, Texas singer/songwriter Gaylan Latimer had recorded as both a solo act (Gaylon Ladd and Gaylon Latimer) and with a number of East-Texas-based bands, including Bob and Gaylon, The Dawgs, Eastside Transfer and The Silvertones. Released by Meaux's Double Cajun label (which was in turn distributed by Shelby Singleton's SSS International, musically "Heather Black" was rather tame. With Latimer and Tommy Christian responsible for most of the material, the majority of the set was fairly conventional top-40. Latimer had a decent voice and while there wasn't anything particularly wrong with pop ballads such as "Look Around Son", "Are You Coming with Me" and "Last Words", the pair had a penchant of penning melodramatic (and highly irritating) "song stories" (think Harry Chapin-styled irritation). That's not to say the LP was a total waste. "Let It Slide", "She's My Woman" and the goofy "Bill (The Black Militant)" were all interesting fuzz guitar-propelled hard rock numbers.
"Heather Black" track listing: 1.) Look Around Son (Gaylan Latimer) - 3:15 2.) I'll Care If You'll Care (Gaylan Latimer - Tommy Christian) - 2:30 3.) Angels Gather Tears (Carl Friend - Harry O. Wetsell) - 2:53 4.) Bill (The Black Miltant) (Gaylan Latimer - Tommy Christian) - 2:15 5.) Are You Coming with Me (Gaylan Latimer - Tommy Christian) - 3:09 6.) I Must Go (Gaylan Latimer) - 2:35 7.) Let It Slide (Gaylan Latimer - Tommy Christian) - 3:20 8.) Dream Little Woman (Gaylan Latimer - Tommy Christian) - 3:04 9.) She's My Woman (Gaylan Latimer) - 2:54 10.) Walking with You (Gaylan Latimer ) - 2:27 11.) Last Words (Gaylan Latimer - Tommy Christian) - 3:02
We've never seen or heard it, but there's apparently an earlier live album on the American Playboy label ("Live")
