Hey
guys! Yeah, so this is my only unrelated-to-AnitaBooks page on the site,
but I decided it was a good idea, seeing
as
how us fans need more reading material while we wait for more JC!
Anyway, this is the place to go for to find books to
read.
It's a combination of Furrgirl's, Leathergirl's, and my reading reccommendations.
Of course you may not like some
of
the books we reccommend... but of course that's impossible since they ALL
have yummy guys in them! Then again,
if
you're just not a fan of really wicked sex scenes (most of the time) and
really hot, delicious, sexy men (all of the time)
then
you probably will hate these books.... Otherwise, onward! I'll try to update
this section whenever I get a chance.
And
of course alot of you have probably read most of them because they're so
good, and we all have good taste of course
if
we all love the JC books. ;) So if you like them alot it would be great
to discuss them at the message board. Yay!
The Stephanie Plum Series -- by Janet Evanovich
This is our number one reccommendation! Besides the JC books, this
is our favorite series. No one can resist
Ranger
and Morelli! They're just so cute! Okay, well maybe cute isn't the word
because Ranger's just a cooler
version
of Edward, and Morelli was a really naughty little boy before he became
a cop. The main character is a
named
Stephanie (aka. the worst bounty hunter ever). Unlike Anita, Stephanie
has no idea what she's doing,
but
she seems to have ridiculously good luck at accidently apprehending criminals.
Of course there's always
Ranger
and Morelli to help her out of the tough situations. Like being handcuffed
naked to her shower, for example.
The
series is just positively hillarious, and of course there's that Richard/JC-like
love triangle that makes the
books
so fun to read. Most Richard fans like Morelli, and most JC fans like Ranger.
There are exceptions of
course,
like Leathergirl, who likes Morelli despite being an adoring JC fan. Then
again, Morelli isn't annoying like
Richard.
He's just as sexy as Ranger, it's just that Ranger's... cooler. Really.
(He has secret superpowers and
lives
in the Bat Cave and has an endless supply of black cars.) Since Ranger's
so cool, I've included him in
alot
of my Fanfic, and he and Morelli have popsicles on the popsicle page. So
far there are eight books in the
series,
but it's very easy to figure out what order they go in. The first one is
called "One for the Money," the
second
is "Two for the Dough" and so on.
The Deadly Series -- by Brenda Joyce
Actually,
Furrgirl and I have just finished reading them, but we love them.
Leathergirl will read them soon
too.
The main character is Francesca Cahill, a self-appointed crime solver.
The books are historical, taking
place
around 1900, but of course the guys are still sexy and the herioine is
tough like Anita without the
coldness.
And where would a good series be without a love-triangle? The two men in
her life are Rick Bragg,
her
forbidden love, and Calder Hart, Rick's really yummy half-brother. Of course
we don't really meet Calder
until
the second and third book, but after that there's tons of sexual tension.
Calder is perhaps the only guy
that
Furrgirl and I agree on, considering that Rick is really more like Richard.
(Calder's a pretty bad boy, like
JC.)
There are only four books in the series so far, but the next one is coming
out in the spring. And of course
there
is a cliff-hanger ending so we all wait impatiently for the next book.
The first book is called "Deadly Love."
The Black Jewel Trilogy -- by Anne Bishop
I know alot of people that have read this series already, but I reccommend
it for those who haven't.
They're
a bit different from the Anita series in that it's more Dark Fantasy genre
and less Dark Mystery genre.
The
storyline is complex, there are tons of characters, but none of them quite
compare to the best,
Damien
and Lucivar. They're super sexy and dangerous, and Damien's most powerful
of all. Although
the
books are very dark and gothic-like, it's not much worse than say... "Narcissus
in Chains." Really good
books
though, everyone that's I know has read them has liked them. Damien
is exactly like JC, just
more
mysterious and dark and all that. He's the best! The plot is really good
too, so you'll enjoy the
parts
where Damien and Lucivar aren't in the picture too. The first book is called
"Daughter of the Blood."
The Witches of Eileanan -- by Kate Forsyth
Another
fantasy series that Leathergirl and I love. If you like the paranormal
and witchery aspect
of
Anita, you'll probably like this. It takes place in an imaginary land,
but all the characters speak
a
form of Gaelic accent. It's really cool when you get used to it. The best
thing is that there are tons
of
plot lines and characters, but you care about them all just as much as
the main character's story.
Speaking
of, her name is Isabeau, and she is the best heroine ever. You really sympathize
with her
after
people do such horrible things to her, and her life is pretty depressing,
but she's very strong.
The
only bad part is that there isn't much romance, and not alot of yummy guys.
There's Lachlan,
but
he's... grrr, you'll see. All I can say is... poor Isabeau! Other than
that, this series is really good.
And
there's about six books in it, and the author has written five so far.
The sixth one comes out very
soon.
The first book is called "The Witches of Eileanan."
The Blood Series -- by Tanya Huff
Another
series that alot of people have read already, probably because of it's
close similarities to
Anita.
To sum it up, you got your Anita-like main character and the two hot guys
engaged in a love
triangle
with her. One of them is a vampire, Henry (who writes romance novels in
his spare time), and
her
human ex-lover/lover. It's really a good series though, even though it
ends after five books. You
like
both guys so much that it's really hard to choose, but of course I picked
the vampire being a JC
fan
and all. If you're an Anita fan, you'll probably like this series alot.
The In Death Series -- by J.D. Robb
A
very popular bestselling series, but everyone likes them and I thought
I'd reccommend them anyway.
They're
very good, Roarke is very hot, and Eve is like a clone of Anita, except
she's a cop in 2065.
Personally,
despite my love of Roarke, I really read the books because of the secondary
characters.
I
thought the love/hate relationship between Peabody and Ian McNab was so
cute... hehe. However,
they're
also very good mystery plots, and of course there are your allotted tons
of sex scenes per book.
Did
I mention Roarke is a gazillionaire? He's really super-rich. He owns everything.
And he's hot. And
he's
Irish and an ex-criminal. I mean, this guy is really hot.
The Vampire Legacy -- by Karen E. Taylor
A
very good modern-day vampire series. The main character is a vampire herself,
Deirdre Griffin,
and
her lover is Detective Mitch Greer, a human. Each book has a mystery-like
plot, just like Anita.
Overall
a very good series. The first book is called "Blood Secrets."
Kushiel's Dart, Kushiel's Chosen, ect. -- by Jacqueline Carey
Very similar to Anne Bishop's Dark
Jewels series and probably if you like the dark, gothic sexual
nature
of the Anita books you'll like this series. The heroine, Phedre, is alot
like Anita, except that instead
of
being a kick-butt zombie raiser, she's a trained courtesan who becomes
a spy. The sex isn't explicit,
but
hey, we make sacrifices for a good series! ;) Don't be scared by the length
of the books. They're about
700
pages each, and the complex characters and plot lines might be a little
bit daunting at first, but once
you
get into it you don't even notice. And like in all good books, you've got
your share of sexy heroes vying
for
the love of the heroine. But trust me, if you like Anita and if you like
Anne Bishop, you'll like this series.
It's
very good.
