Blue eyes, Baby’s got blue eyes

Like a deep blue sea

On a blue, blue day

Blue eyes, Baby’s got blue eyes

When the morning comes

I’ll be far away

And I say

Zelgadis gazed as the kingdom of Saillune stretched out before him. Zel leaned himself against a nearby tree and sighed. It had been months since he last saw Amelia. Since then he had been searching far and wide for his cure. Yet all his searching got him nowhere.

But somehow he always found himself being drawn back here to Saillune…..

He fingers caressed the small bracelet. Amelia gave it to him when they defeated Dark Star. Zel placed the bracelet in his pocket and looked upwards at the sky. He wondered:

Why am I here? What am I doing here? Is it because of her?

Zel shook his head in desperation to banish this thought. No. That’s not it.

Is it?

Blue eyes holding back the tears

Holding back the pain

Baby’s got blue eyes

And she’s alone again

As night descended, Amelia stood on her own in the palace library. And, like many times before, her thoughts drifted to Zel. Zel, the chimera. Someone she loved….

Suddenly a million questions about Zel began buzzing around Amelia’s head. Why hadn’t she heard from him for so long? Has he really gone for good? Why couldn’t he see that she needed him? Why couldn’t he stop being so devoted to his seemingly never-ending quest? Couldn’t he see that she loved him and cared for him despite his appearance? Why isn’t he here to support her at a time like this? Why did he leave her this way?

Outside, it began to rain. Raindrops appeared on the window. Was it rain? Or was it Amelia’s tears?

Blue eyes, Baby’s got blue eyes

Like a clear blue sky

Watching over me

Blue eyes, Oh I love blue eyes

When I’m by her side

Where I long to be

I will see

Meanwhile, Zel was watching the rain from his room at an inn. It was there and then that he remembered once when he’d seen Amelia cry. He’d seen her blue eyes looking so distraught and mournful. And so Zel, wanting an end to her sorrow, wrapped her up in his arms, to provide comfort. And then all sadness in her eyes disintegrated and left just one emotion - love. Love for Zel. He’d never forgotten the look in her eyes. Her blue eyes…

Zel, clenched his hands into a fist. He can’t hide from the facts - He still loves Amelia no matter how many times he tries to deny it. And she still loves him - even after everything. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the bracelet. There, in his hands, was proof. Enough proof to show that Zelgadis’ actions were wrong. She needs him. No matter what his appearance.

Blue eyes laughing in the sun

Laughing in the rain

Baby’s got blue eyes

And I am home again

The rain came down heavily on the palace roof. Amelia was still residing in the library. She paced around the library, still thinking about Zel. She had been living for months on the high hope that Zel will come back….

But this high hope was rapidly falling through….

Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Amelia ceased her pacing and headed fot the door. Slowly she opened it…..

There, greeting her eyes, was a drowned rat. Someone under a heavy cowl, soaking wet. The stranger raised his head and smiled. It was Zel.

Amelia was so overwhelmed with joy she couldn’t speak.

"Zel!" Amelia whispered. "You’ve come back"

"To you, yes." Zel whispered back.

"Through the rain?"

"Yes"

"You went through the rain for me?"

"But of course. I just couldn’t leave you alone like this."

And with those words, Amelia was swept up in a tsunami of emotion. He really did care about her! Enough to come back to her. And through the rain too….

Amelia looked a Zel, her eyes moist but still radiating with love. And with that, Amelia flung her arms around Zel. Zel smiled and put his arm around her waist. His other arm moved to touch her face. Caressing her cheek, he moved her face to meet his.

And he looked into her eyes.

Her Blue eyes.

The End
