Part Thirteen

Caela began to make the fight more personal. Her mind was elsewhere, flashing back to the night her parents were killed. Her face was holding a tranced expression. Instead of thinking of the goal of training and practice, a goal of kicking the vampire's ass, being Orin's ass at the moment overrulled the exercise.

"Caela." It was a warning to let her know to ease up. Buffy watched as Giles called the Kismetten, with wide eyes, slightly glossy from the memories of when she did the same thing to the dummy in the Sunnydale High's library a little over two years ago. Taking her anger out on something that she played and pictured as The Master.

Caela continued, walking forward she obligated him to tripping backwards on his own feet as he tried to keep himself from becoming a bloody pulp.

"Caela!" She bent over him and grabbed his shirt, her eyes full of hate and anger, pulling his face up and readying her fist for a blow to his cheek. Pike came up behind her and started to pull her off of the terrified Orin.

Orin was confused as to why Caela was acting this way, he didn't understand if this was how she always fought, so vigorously and insanely, or if he had done something to piss her off.

Pike got help from Angel and yanked the young slayer off of the rookie. Pike held her by the shoulders and shook her quickly once and yelled at her, seeing if he could get through to her. "What are you doing? What's wrong with you?" He looked her straight in the eyes.

She finally realized what she was about to do, how she acted, and fear ran through her features, causing two tears to fall from either side of her face. She pushed away from Pike and walked to Orin, who now stood, with Angel's help. "I'm so sorry, Orin." She reached over to touch his forearm softly. " I-"

Orin plucked her hand from his arm and held it in his own two, lightly rubbing the back of it with his thumbs. "I know you didn't mean to."

She smiled and let out a deep sigh of relief, she had horrible thoughts and possibilities running through her head between those few seconds of what he would say, how he would react.

He smiled at her, knowing that all had been repaired and turned to Buffy, a bit of an ego rushing through him. "What about you, Buffy?" He raised an eyebrow. "How about a round?"

Buffy raised her brow as well in return and rolled her eyes as she walked turned herself around, Angel in front of her, and started towards their personal sparing space.

"What? Aren't you a slayer yourself? Like Caela?" He followed her, a few feet behind.

She didn't necessarily ignore him, but just continued with her mission; to "fight" with Angel and get in a little training. She gave a good and hard kick towards Angel's face, one that he dodged and rounded his fist towards her face in return.

Orin became a little annoyed that he appeared to be ignored. "Buffy?" He stood, crossing his arms, not 4 feet from the two lovers.

Buffy stopped, as well had Angel and waited for Orin to say what he had to say, putting her hands on her hips while she listened.

"Please. Spar with me." He gave her a dead serious look with a dead serious tone of voice.

Buffy thought this over a few times in her head, finally nodding her head, "Ok." Angel's eyes grew no bigger than a walnut and looked at her in astonishment. Buffy saw his expression of being hit with a brick and patted him on the shoulder, lightly guiding him to the side to make room for Orin and repositioned herself. "Now," She steadied her footing, "should I go easy on you?" Her hands were artfully aimed and ready.

Orin shrugged to the question and spoke, "No different than what you would with Angel." Copying her molded pose.

Buffy raised both brows this time and snorked a puff of air through her nose and cocked her head and then nodded, advancing on him as she "would with Angel."

Orin was soon on the ground, Giles looked at his stop watch and pressed the stop button and read the results. Pike looked of his shoulder all the while and read the results as well with the help of the ex-watcher's tilting it towards his view.

"00.25"

Orin brushed himself off and returned to his posture and smiled. He had gotten the procedure down now. He fights, he gets his ass kicked and he learnes the moves and uses them against them in the next round. He was sure that he would get her this time around, or at least improve.

No such luck. Giles stopped his timer again, displaying the time to Pike and, another looker, Caela.

*00.17*

Orin's face ended up hitting the grass and dirt first. Spitting out blades of grass from his lips he stood and brushed himself off again. A bit flustered, but still determined and assured.

The audience watched intently.

The sound of Giles pushing the "stop" button on his timer rung again as Orin hit the ground.

"00.5"

Buffy got in a "lucky" shot, as Orin would LIKE to call it, and made the boy fall on his back and tail bone hard on the pounded dirt. Buffy straddled his torso as she stood and leaned down to him, face to face. "Caela's younger than me. Think about that next time." She laughed to herself and slung her leg over to meet the other and helped him up. "Its ok, if it makes you feel better, I can take everyone here." She looked over her shoulder to Angel and gave a sympathetic half smile and whispered to him. "No offense."

Her boyfriend put a hand out in front of him and smiled back, gesturing that she was in her bounds and that nothing she had done had offended him in the least.

Orin was rubbing his lower back and cringed a bit when he found a spot that was destined to become a nasty bruise by late that night, possibly the black and blue ones that made him sick when he looked at them, giving her a half smile that held no sympathy in it at all, simply filled with sarcasm and a attempt to be civil. "Sure." Buffy chuckled a little to herself and patted him on the back and gently encouraged him to sit down in one of the porch chairs.

Caela handed him a towel and an ice pack that she had gone to get the minute she had agreed to test him.

"Thanks." He applied the ice on the arch of his back and closed his eyes, allowing himself to calm down.

Caela smiled and whispered in his ear. "I should have told ya dat I have only been "the" slayer for a few months short of a year now. I am not even a match for Buffy." He looked to her as she retracted her lips from his ear, a bit astonished. Caela gave a sorry filled look and shrugged.

Buffy heard Caela speaking to Orin and smiled as she waved a sarcastic hand at him. Letting him know that he had acted foolishly and that it was counted on by everyone who witnessed this that he was going to fall against her.

Orin let out a deep breath and leaned her head back against the back of the chair and closed his eyes again. Exhausted and embarrassed almost completely. Now, if he peed his pants right there it would be absolute embarrassment.

The rest of the group looked up at each other and simultaneously started to hold their hands over their mouths, trying desperately to contain their laughter.

Soon, they all failed and burst into a song of chuckles and fits of laughing teens and adults.
