RRI Ternate "Journal 18" at 18:00 Eastern Indonesian Time "NORTH MALUKU DISTRICT
GOVERNMENT WILL COOPERATE WELL WITH PRESS" On Thursday, (27/09) Bupati
(Head) of North Maluku District, Mr. Gahral Syah, together with all his staff hosted a friendly
friendship gathering with both print and electronic local journalists at his office. Gahral
expressed his intention to improve good cooperation and relationship between district local
government and journalists, as the local government would always put journalist as equal
partners.
RRI Ternate "Journal 18" at 18:00 Eastern Indonesian Time "SIDE-DISH MONEY FOR IDPs
DISTRIBUTED IN CENTRAL HALMAHERA DISTRICT" Mr. Ibrahim, staff of Social Welfare
Department of Central Halmahera district told "Journal 18" on Wednesday (26/09) that the
distribution of 3 billion rupiah of side-dish money for IDPs are being carried out in several
distribution sites within Central Halmahera district.

*TIMBER COMPANY RE-OPERATES, WORKERS RETURN TO WORK*
Taiwi, timber-company re-operated its production activity on Sept 21. Taiwi was rocked with
workers' strike demanding rise in wage for several days since September 15. Penta Libela,
Director of Industry at the factory, stated that 80 % of the 2,960 workers have been back to
work. Penta added that successful re-operation of the timber factory has been facilitated by the
Governor, workers, the factory management, Bupati (Head) of North Maluku district, Chief of
Police and the Commander of TNI Sector II of North Maluku.

OF NORTH MALUKU (DPRD I) DECIDES GAFUR ELECTION'S LEGALITY* The Provincial
House of Legislature of North Maluku (DPRD I) convened a plenary session that aims at
cancelling the previous election on July 5th, which resulted in the victory of Mr. Abdul Gafur for
the gubernatorial post. Asgar Saleh, the correspondent of "Kantor Berita 68 H" in Ternate
reported that the session would be closed to public. By the time of writing this report the House
building is being tightly guarded by security personnel and even journalists covering plenary
process are not allowed to enter the room. However, in general security situation in Ternate
looks conducive and under control.

NEITHER JUDGES NOR CHIEF OF COURT AVAILABLE IN BACAN SUB-DISTRICT*
Communities of Bacan Island have complained and sent a letter to the district Legislature of
North Maluku that judges and chief of the sub-district court are yet to be available in Bacan
sub-district. The post conflict condition has failed to bring any criminals to court. Chairil Noho,
an M.P told "Lintas Gamalama" that his commission has met with Director General of Justice
Department in Jakarta to provide law apparatus in Bacan sub-district but the centre is willing to
post them as long as the Head (Bupati) of North Maluku district guarantees their safety.
However, the Bupati has not responded to the request.

RETURNEES FROM JAVA URGE LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR
NEEDS* Transmigrant returnees from Java who have been back to their host location urge local
government to pay attention not only local returnees but also tranmigrants. Samsudin, one of
the returnees from Waringin Lamo village of Kao sub-district told "Lintas Gamalama" in Ternate
that transmigrant returnees in Waringin Lamo have only received assistance once in the form of
85 kg of rice, 5 kg of salted fish, 5 kg of sugar and 6 bottles of soy sauce per family from
Transmigration Department of North Maluku district since they returned six months ago.

IDPs ARE RETURNED SOON* North Maluku Satlak will continue returning IDPs to their host
villages. On September 29, Satlak will return 193 Moslem IDPs (40 families) from Ternate to
Mamuya village of Galela sub-district and 263 Moslem IDPs (63 families) from Tidore Island to
Tobalimoli sub village of Gamlenge village in Jailolo sub-district on September 30.

NORTH MALUKU (DPRD I) DECIDED TO DISQUALIFY GAFUR ELECTION* On Friday (28/09),
factions at Assembly of North Maluku province decided to disqualify results of the previous
election held on July 5th for the post of Governor and Vice Governor of North Maluku province
which resulted the victory of the duo, Abdul Gafur & Yamin Tawary. During a closed plenary
session, Golkar faction was abstained. Re-election will be held likely in October but Gafur and
his mate are excluded for the next run as they are proved to have bribed M.Ps for their election,
which is a violation of the election regulation.
